So I'm a bit of a basketball junkie, and I was curious as to who your favorite basketball player of all time is? Also, who is your favorite athlete of all time? I love Pistol Pete Maravich. I believe him to be the best offensive player of all time. I look forward to hearing your responses! I'm still trying to decide my favorite athlete...I'm leaning towards Michael Phelps or Bo Jackson.
"Count it down with me. Five, four, three, two, one.
The national champion is clad in Big Orange!"
Pete was awesome but I don't think he ever had anybody like Jordan guarding him. Jordan was greatest basketball player ever possibly greatest athlete. Terry Francona thinks he could have been an all star caliber baseball player. Bo Jackson is definitely in the discussion.
BJ Armstrong... random, right? Met him in Iowa City at a Hawkeyes game... was probably the nicest college athlete I ever met. And loved watching him on the Bulls with Jordan and Pippen.
Pete averaged 40+ a game an this was before the 3 point shot. Most of his shots were behind the arc. He also did it in less games than athletes of today given the JV teams. Most explosive offensive player of all time.
Bump! There are tons of people on this board and I know there are people out there with interesting takes! Come on yall!!!
pippen was always my favorite and or rodman when he was in town. i really loved all the bulls though. kerr and toni were some of my favorites as well from the team. if i had to choose a favorite from a different team would be kevin garnett or jason kidd
Larry Bird was always my favorite
Gotta be Jordan for me, who by the way, just turned 50.
Steve Kerr is a classic. I grew up playing NBA live 97 on the Super Nintendo. He was money from behind the arc elbow extended on the right side. I actually named my intramural team after him for all 4 years I was at Tennessee.
Dr J was favorite basketball player. And favorite athlete would be my childhood favorite former Dallas Cowboy Tony Dorsett.
My father attended school and went to the Y with Maravich when he was in Raleigh. Insane talent.
For me - The Hick from French Lick.
Greatest athlete of all time is Jim Thorpe!
Jack Nicklaus was my favorite to watch.

Did your father ever tell you stories about him?
My PSN screenname is ALDYKES41DIRKN. That is how much I love Dirk. I was a freshman in high school when I really picked back up on the NBA. That was 2001. Saw Dirk play. Was sold immediately.
There are only four answers to any question: Yes, No, I don't know, or the Correct Answer.
He was two years younger and the stories were about how great he was with the ball and how many hours he spent shooting. I will have to ask him for more.
Please do, it would absolutely make my day to hear some stories on the Pistol.
CBS did a great show on him a few years back. Lot of great stories on him and how his dad pushed him hard. One that always stood out was that his dad would drive him around town while he was dribbling out the window. Also do remember hearing that if they had a three point line he would have avg 60 his last year of college instead of 44
Larry Bird for me with Bernard King a close second. I would have to give Bo Jackson the nod for best athlete.
