Well said. +1.
"Give him six" "We don't give a damn about the whole state of Alabama" "Grit N Grind"
Same feelings. I've been to a couple of games in the past where people around me were basically using it as a social event (student section included in one of those cases). Place isn't as loud as it used to be. However I get the feeling the lack of success on the field the last 5 years has definitely contributed to that a little bit.
i like all genres of music myself.as far as what was played at the o&w game,i think it is smart to play music that the majority of the 200 or so recruits enjoy.there for i totally understand why they played rap.there was nothing vulgar or distasteful that i wouldn't what my kid to hear played so i see no problem.
I'm right there with you, about to be 35, and I have one of the most eclectic Pandora selections around. I can find redeeming qualities in any kind of music. Besides Nickelback and the Goo Goo Dolls. Ick. We actually listen to Drake radio quite a bit when I'm at the gym, and I was happy to hear Started From the Bottom played on Saturday.
The thing to keep in mind: once the season starts, we will not have a DJ set up in the corner of the North end zone, and it certainly will not be Arian Foster playing random songs he likes. I'm sure it will be pre-selected music that was approved by the AD (as well as the team, most likely). But I would not mind at all a majority of the music played being stuff the team themselves select.
As a side note, I miss Christopher Wallace as well, Alex. It is a shame that he never got a chance to grow with the genre. He would completely embarass most of these clowns nowadays.
If the Orange and White game is about recruiting, so be it. If it is about the fans so be it.
When the band is playing Rocky Top and the Rap Dj starts playing shake your ass at the same time, I guess traditionalist such as me, are not getting it!
Also, if it is no longer for families, several people around us took their kids and left during shake your ass!
My opionion, my time and yep, my money!
The only thing I'll say is music doesnt matter to the average fan sitting there in a game. Myself I could careless 90% of the time. I could also careless what genre, it just needs to flow well. You have to remember, there is a room for all music. Since the game is all that matters. Mix it up at the very least, then everyone can be a little happy, a little pissed off and a little ok.
You are right, it is your money, but I do not remember hearing "shake your ..." a single time. I thought they were quite careful to not play any expletives over the speakers. It was like listening to it on the radio. And I was also around quite a few families and not one of themeven mentioned the music negatively, much less left because of it.
i think virgina techs entrance is pretty cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KupWl-UzDk
but i wouldnt change running through the T i always get chills when they come running out
As a member of the "older crowd" I agree. My wife and I comment weekly about boys of fall. I like watching the boys dance and hop around in the huddle getting hyped to go back on the field.
As long as the music is clean; who cares? I like it, the boys like it and the recruits certainly like it. I'd rather win than hear another song by a midget with a man crush on Tebow who once wore a Gator helmet on stage.
+1 for your closing statement
"Count it down with me. Five, four, three, two, one.
The national champion is clad in Big Orange!"
They don't play expletives over the PA.

I don't recall them playing Shake your a** either. I don't think that they would play that. Maybe you are just overreacting a bit? Because you obviously didn't like the music selection. The son may have said shake your a** but don't think it is a song. Please don't overreact and make false accusations because you don't like the music selection.
Oh I agree with you! Maybe you were responding to the guy I responded to? I'm on your side haha
I'm laughing at all of this. Butch can control the music played before the game but Dave Hart has control over the game experience itself. It is my understanding that they will be using more recorded music to create an atmosphere much like Alabama (what a shock) but I can guarantee you the selection of music will be from across the board and it will be clean.
That was my thought. Just because it was a rap song doesn't mean that they said "Shake your ass", the same way that a country song isn't always about getting drunk and pickup trucks.
MIDTENNVOLS, i'm sorry you didn't like the music choice, but let's get one thing clear. You aren't always going to get YOUR way. I don't always get MY way, and life ain't fair.
Now if you are complaining that they played canned music over the top of Rocky Top, you have to remember that this is the first time we have done that during a game. Furthermore, it was Arian Foster down there playing the music. I'm certain that he and the Pride didn't discuss who plays when ahead of the game.
The times are changing. We'd hate to see you go because of something as dumb as the music being played on the loud speakers. But if it's not offensive and just isn't your type of music... well you're going to have to get over it.
Now let's all have a big group hug and remember that we are all cheering for the same team.

Lmao at gangsta rap. What is this 1993?!
2013. Team 117. Beginning of the new Era.
Music is always going to be an issue. An unfortunate side effect of living in the bible belt. I remember listening to a preacher one time go on about how shameful it was that we all knew the words to a song about moonshining (referring to Rocky Top) but did not have our hymnals memorized. If anything, I would love to see the band be more involved in leading crowd cheers. I understand that most bands like to focus on more musicianship, but they could easily include some more songs for the sole purpose of getting the crowd active.
So I've read most of this thread and have to say that I've learned nothing, and seen no point to the original post. I tried. Not getting that 5 minutes back.
Yep I'm waiting on the PC police to try to outlaw Rocky Top. It not only promotes illegal liquor and imbibing same, it objectifies women and approves of the murder of federal agents. Not only that, it complains about public utilities and promotes sprawl. I don't know how we've made it this far.
