Gruden was just on Mike and Mike on ESPN and was asked directly about the Channel 3 report and denied any knowledge of it. He didn't seem too comfortable answering the question though, but that may just be wishful thinking from me....

Of course he's going to deny it on ESPN.
He has to deny it, right?
He did say he was trying to hang onto to his job at ESPN. I think he sounded more frustrated than in denial. His tone makes me think Memphis may have made a blunder with it's reporting. JMO tho.
I agree, he didn't seem comfortable and sounded frustrated he was being asked the question. He also mentioned something about telling his wife...

"Count it down with me. Five, four, three, two, one.
The national champion is clad in Big Orange!"
He sounded like he was caught off guard. He definitely wasn't expecting that question.
"Old School"! A strong defense wins championships!
Best thing to come out of Alabama: I-59 North
"I'm trying to hang on to the job I have now". Sounds just like what Bob Stoops said.
Sounds like a non-denial denial if you ask me. Semantics are a womderful thing.
It depends on what the definition of "is" is.
I still think the report is total B.S.
But I still HOPE it ain't.
I will say this: It sure sounded a heck of a lot less adamant than Saban's "reassurance" of the Dolphins: "I will NOT be the next coach at the University of Alabama." So right now, to sum up, I'm hoping that:
1. Gruden is a liar like Saban, but that
2. He's not as good at it as Saban, and that
3. He's a better coach than Saban, and, oh, yeah
4. That we get him.
Not much to ask at all, is it?
"Bravely taking to his feet, he beat a very brave retreat." Sir Robin's Minstrels.
Great summary dober!
Frankly, after listening to that, I am more encouraged than ever! His denial was very weak as opposed to saying something like "I'm going to be here at ESPN for a long time and these types of reports may come up but I'm not interested in leaving"
He will be coaching somewhere next year, I just hope it's here! There's got to be a reason he mentions the fans in Knoxville in his recent Corona commercial!
I'll hang up and listen.
I am not saying that Gruden is coming, but that was Not a shutting of the door on UT. There is some fire there to go along with the smoke. Again, not saying he is coming, but talk of him being interested and perhaps more would not seem absurd or out of the question after hearing that. If he does not come, get Butch Davis and go get 'em.
My guess is that Gruden did not want to discuss it on air. I think this was ESPN pressing the issue and forcing comment. I could be wrong.
I still don't think there is anything concrete to be determined.
What I don't understand about the Brown's rumor is Haslam spends around a billion dollars to buy them then is going to give some portion of ownership to Gruden. That just doesnt sound right to me. Why wouldn't he just cut a big check to him instead?
This would only make sense if he were to end up coaching in Cleveland.
Now that makes a little more sense but that is still a big bet that Gruden would be successful as their coach. But at least that is believable.
