I will give Gundy his due...since 2008 his record is 48-16, but my belief if UT comes back to it's former days,
recruiting & defense in that order are the priorities.
I don't know whom the best recruiter would be, but DD had top 15 recruiting hauls & Strong should be able with the UT
message top that.
Strong, Tee Martin, Jay Graham, and Derrick Ansley could do some WORK on the recruiting trail.
"When we step on that football field, everyone flips a switch. And it's on..." - Butch Jones
Why? Because they're all black? I would take Staley over Ansley any day of the week. The others I absolutely agree on though. Getting Tee would be a huge hire as well. Pittman, Graham and Staley are the 3 most important guys, as far as recruiting is concerned, that any new coach could keep, IMO. But go look at our top commitments and our highest rated targets and take note as to whom is recruiting them.
I think Gundy is a better coach than Strong and is a more proven coach to this point. If Gundy would make a solid DC hire, I really believe he is a lower risk hire than Charlie Strong. I like Strong, but I like Gundy just a little more.
I have went back & forth on this but I'm leaning toward Strong. My reasoning is that I really want to see us return to playing some grown man football. I miss having a stout D & a punishing run game. These things are needed to win in this conference & I think Strong will have a style like this more than Gundy. Also I think Strong will have more success on the recruiting trail due to his conference ties. I just think we need a tough defensive minded coach to win consistently in this conference & I think that's Strong IMO.
Butch Davis is better than both (if NCAA stuff cleared up as claimed/reported).
As a Gator... I think Strong is a okay coach not a great coach. I think the Big Weak has made Strong look like a better coach than he is. I believe Gundy would be a strong and great hire for UT. Whoever it is, I look forward to the old school UT/UF rivalry and great/close games in the near future. GL in your coaching search.

The cards have a lousy defense after 3 years.... A poor running game and a stellar passing game. Hmmm not sure Strong is your guy
Guys boomer sooner here. Mike Gundy and OSU had the most number of Big 12 victories the last 5 years in the Big 12 until they lost to Baylor. Better than Stoops. Cale Gundy who is Mike's brother is OU's most successful recruiter and has been on Bob's staff from day one. He was a great QB in college and has coached both Demarco Murray,Tashard Choice, and AD (never heard of AP who is that?). Cale Gundy is a fantastic running backs coach in his own right. Joe Wickline the OL coach is the best in the country period end of story. Mike Gundy at Tennessee can get good defensive coaches easier at Tenn.I promise. It would not surprise me if they brought Darrell Wyatt from UT as wide receivers coach who is also an A++++++ recruiter. Wyatt coached with Mike at OSU and Cale at OU.
You think you don't want Gundy but he is one hell of a coach. What he has done at OSU is unbelieveable. He can recruit and develop players.
The two best professional rookies in 2010 and both from Oklahoma City,Oklahoma.
Good friend of mine (and Die Hard Sooner) told me at dinner last night that without Gundy OSU is another Tulsa, even with T. Boone's money. He would love for us to hire him.
Me? It appears our final three are Gundy, Stong and Fedora. I don't think we can go wrong with any of them.
