But Southern Miss being 0-12 the year after he left would be a big concern if I were hiring him. I know a lot of it can be due to coaching, but those are his players.
I take the opposite approach. Fedora's team going 0-12 the year after he led them to a C-USA championship speaks volumes about Fedora's coaching ability IMO.
"What did he do? All he did was score!" - John Ward
Also look at Arkansas without Petrino. Are you saying he's a bad coach too?
Yeah, I disagree with this premise.
I think coaches CAN make enormous differences. Remember, it was basically an entire new staff/system at USM too.
Coaching can certainly make a difference but to go from conference champs to 0-12 is a stretch for it being just coaching.
Chizik without Malzahn! Only 2 years removed from a MNC.
If I recall, Cincinnati had a losing season the first season after Brian Kelly left too, while transitioning to Butch Jones' season.
Chizic without Malzahn and also with a new defensive coordinator. Two new systems in one season. He still won 3 games.
Fedora is a coach that could do well with less. Anyone that doesn't think he would be a great hire hasn't looked into him. He can recruit, motivate, coach offense and much more personal than dools
