Anyone posting that the vols didn't deserve to be in the NCAAT or the committee knew more than we gave them credit for doesn't understand basketball. You have an average of 3 guys who you depend on to win games for you day in and day out, and when they aren't motivated you could lose to anyone (Robert Morris, Mercer, MTSU last year). These guys did the work and deserved to play in the tourny and were robbed of that. If you put in work for a year to get that one promotion at work, and at the end of the year your boss gave it to someone with worse numbers than you, would you put in your best day of work right after finding out about if? Cuonzo Martin doesn't owe the UT fan base an apology. In fact, the big orange nation owes him one for being ignorant, and as fickle as a preteen romance. Also if you cared so much, why were there only 4,500 people at the game? If you didn't bother to go you shouldn't be saying anything at all.
Year in and year out, disappointed teams from major conferences lay an egg in the NIT. Being in the NIT is more of a statement than sucking in the NIT, in my opinion.
I'm not saying that losing at home against a mid-major in any form of postseason isn't a bummer, but ultimately Cuonzo's program will be judged by competing for conference championships and relevance on a national stage. Modest progress so far. Time to attain a higher status next year...indications are that improvement will continue.
"Bravely taking to his feet, he beat a very brave retreat." Sir Robin's Minstrels.
I didn't go because I live 400 miles away, but I know this, as a previous manager in my job, I was held to a different standard. Even if I didn't agree with the way things were handled or didn't like certain things that happened within the company, I had to motivate my team. I had to move them past their frustrations and get them to go out and work hard every day. If I had the attitude I had with my job that CCM had, then I would have been fired.
I'm not saying fire CCM. I think he needs next year, all I'm saying is we don't really have anything to go off of to say we'll be in the tournament next year. As I posted, I'm tired of the Maymon argument. Pearl lost Tyler Smith and made it to the Elite 8. Coach your players up and play well in every game. Get a track record for winning tournament games, etc.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
