Anybody watching the New Mexico Bowl right now on ESPN? I do believe Nevada has stolen "Down the Field" from us. There may be a couple of notes changed, but it is almost exactly the same otherwise.
They are ahead 21-0 in the first, so it is being played a lot.

Listen to this and deny it's highway robbery.
Wow! I agree!
Very close, especially the trumpet part. A few differences that set them apart but close enough to be upset over.
Isn't it also Yale's fight song?
They aso stole Sal's defensive schemes and playbook....
I saw something to that effect when I found the Youtube. But I think Yale has about five different fight songs. And none of them work too well for them.
i agree..and ide almost bet this is what coach jones offense will look like if peterman takes over at quarterback...who all to nevada? i took them...but im sure alot took az
Almost dead on.!!! Being in the music business for over 20 yrs. I can tell you this. I am not sure of " down the field " publishing/copyright details, but if in fact Nevada used it and made changes without a mechanical liscensing agreement giving permission, there are a few options that can be pursued. It first has to be proven they "borrowed" it from us.
I never was in the POTSMB but I did play alto sax in the alumni band once for a newspaper story -- and it was a hoot and a half by the way -- so I have actually played the UT arrangement of this song. The Nevada version is much simpler; it sounds like a stock arrangement for high school band directors.
More useless stuff about school songs. UT's band has lifetime royalty-free rights to Rocky Top, and is very possessive of its arrangement.
That said, they apparently made an exception a few years back when Minnesota appeared in the Music City Bowl. At the end of the game, after Minnesota had defeated Alabama, of all people, the Golden Gopher band lit into Rocky Top.
Witnesses said the Bammers about stroked out.
The Minnesota people said all they intended was to thank the folks in Nashville for their hospitality.
I wish I could have seen it.
Eh, Well, UT stole Rocky Top from Chattanooga before the merger. Personally, I think it worked out well for the song that UT started using it and obtained sole rights. The UTC band still played it in the 90's, but it just didn't fit anymore.
Chattanooga never has accepted the merger, has it? Never has and I guess never will.
Just awesome. +1
