Is it just me or does it seem like Butch Jones is a lot more aggressive and confident in recruiting than Dooley. All of these new recruits say good things about how Butch talks to them and how he is the one who actually comes out and talks to them instead of getting someone else to do it for him. It has me pumped up for the next few months!
Says The Wizard of Oz!
He will not have to do much to top Dooley in recruiting .
Not that I'm a Dooley supporter, but to his credit he did pull in 2 top 20 classes.
I'm not attacking you or anything lol but with Tennessee's facilities to sell if you can't put together a top 20 class that's absolutely tuuuurrible
Not defending Dooleys coaching but in reality he didnt do a bad job with recruiting. He only had one class to really recruit. 2010 was just a year to hang on to what Kiffin had been doing...which btw he did a pretty good job. 2012 was very tough because Hart wouldn't give him any public vote of confidence after the UK game. You also have to remember that it's not easy to recruit to a place that hasn't had a winning record in 5 seasons but part of that is his fault.
Ha no worries, but I'd disagree to some extent to what you said. Recruits these days don't see Tennessee as a power house school. Most of them aren't acquainted with what we perceive Tennessee to be. Facilities are a plus, but if you were a recruit and had offers from Tennessee and Alabama (who for the sake of the point has terrible facilities), where would you go? A place that wins championships, or a place that struggles to make a bowl? I do realize though that facilities are nice and that other factors come into play.
To me it seems like every post by Ryan and Kevin tonight has been visiting some recruit. I guess I get that there is some urgency given the coaching change and thats great, but I don't remember Dooley ever being out there like that. I also liked the post on North when his dad said Jones is the first head coach to visit. That's good stuff. Hopefully it will translate into some great recruits in the future.
Best thing to come out of Alabama: I-59 North
I got the sense from Jones' press conference that he's not going to be outworked - whether in recruiting, coaching, or management of the program. Based on what I've read since then, he's making sure he doesn't get outworked.
Sorry to post here know I'm an outsider and I'm not trying to board troll.
I only have one question for you guys, what have you guys heard about Vonn bell? Saw he was down to Osu bama and vols. just looking for some info and thought you guys might know something.
Dooley definitely rubbed him the wrong way and that hurt us a lot. The kid grew up a UT fan and I think we still have a chance as long as Jones gets down there and talks to him.
Also, don't apologize for coming here and asking questions! That's what forums are for.

Thanks for the info.
Yea I know, most fan bases especially scUM fans flip out anytime you jump on one of their threads.
Yea it seemed for the longest time it was a Osu Tenn battle and then it was like everything went quiet. I read something saying he was all set to decide and would visit after the decision and then there was an interview that said different.
I actually think we have some catching up to do now because of the recruiting of the last staff. I think Alabama is ahead and then we are fighting off OSU for number two. Need to go get in on this cat ASAP with the new staff!
You can only visit a kid once inhome as a HC...........its that time of the year to choose now or in mid to late Jan.
Dooley did a good job....no one does a perfect job. Saban changes things most every year. Dooleys problem was our programs image and his oversight in NC, VA and not enough assts in TN which he fixed after NSD 2012. Too late though.
I think Butch will do a very good job and is doing many things right off the start to like but we still have our issues and playing catchup which Dooley did for 2010-2011. That staff was not fit for the South too........another thing he fixed in 2012.

With all due respect, this thread is just filled with inaccuracies.
- The 2010 class was assembled by Dooley going into the houses of Darick, Hunter, James, Stone (beat Saban), and Neal.
- If you read the commitments from 2011 and 2012, all of the big name recruits talk about liking Dooley.
- Butch can come in and target elite recruits this year because he is a new coach at a big name school. It is a pretty easy sell to initiate a conversation by saying, "I am building something new, I need my guys, you would be one of my guys."
CDD had to go, he clearly made some mistakes with recruiting, I too am excited about a new coach, but can we avoid just making up the past?
Well said. Good post.
Problem is, we didn’t know what we were doing either. But when we didn’t know what we were doing, we were pretty good at it…..
No attack from me either, but I challenge you to find any program with a losing record that has put together a top 20 class. Dooley did as well or better than any program in the country below .500 on wins and loses. We are awfully quick to dismiss what he did in bringing us back from the dumpster.
