I don't mean to be so negative, but it's impossible for me be positive about the state of this team. I think wehave far too much talent to be up by only 1 on Troy.
The defense has talent too. I mean how many players did we lose from last years defense? like 2 or 3. It has to be poor coaching the 3rd and 16 and the 4th down play I mean we're just way out of position on those plays.
If Sal's defense is that complicated then we don't need it. I thought we would have hiccups with a new system but a year long meltdown is unacceptable.
I wanted to back these coaches but the inability to adapt over the course of a full season is just not going to cut it. Football is a game of strategy it seems like we're just too stubborn to change what we're doing because "eventually" it will work. Well while we're waiting on it to work other teams have already adapted to something new.
Best thing to come out of Alabama: I-59 North
Told you all last night this game scares my to death. Troy has the 26th ranked offense and this is arguably the worst D in division I.
Like me you didnt know what you had till it was gone. :)
Well, you were typing as I was typing. Threw you a +1 for manning up on the 3rd and Chavis thing when many far less manly men will conveniently "forget" that they ever criticized it.
"Bravely taking to his feet, he beat a very brave retreat." Sir Robin's Minstrels.
Chavis is not going to leave LSU. The man is loyal, and now he's loyal to the Hat.
Chavis won't come back for Dooley. I thought maybe he might come back if we hired Cutcliffe though. Not that that will ever happen.
What's our % on 3rd and +8? Has to be less than 20%
GO BIG ORANGE!!!
Everybody who wants Sal taken out and shot: He looks like he might not live through the game, because this D may give him a heart attack.
He's alternated screaming and gesturing wildly with desperate pleading (which appears to be accompanied with the question, "HOW can you be so stupid??").
His whole face is turning redder and redder and veins are popping out on his forehead and neck.
I'm only half kidding, too. In all seriousness, if I was his wife or kid, I'd be concerned for his health at this rate.
Chavis isn't going to come coach under a lightweight.
I'm guessing at this point that Dooley regrets proclaiming that he was going to be more involved in the defense . . .
I still say throw the bank at Chavis and make him Ass. HC and in charge of all defensive areas including personnel, recruiting, the whole package.
"Old School"! A strong defense wins championships!
Junior safety Byron Moore led the Vols with 10 tackles in the first half. That's usually not a good sign.

Just keep piling on the good news Ryan :)
That wasn't the point. The point was that what everyone thought stunk then really wasn't so bad, especially when compared to now.
I honestly think that barring a miracle, Chavis is bitter enough, and understandably so, that he'd NEVER come back to coach here, absent possibly a huge offer to be HC, and that isn't (and shouldn't be) happenin', either.
thats what i mean. can't coach them up if you can't coach
UT: 313 passing yards, 12-51 rushing, 16-25-0 passing, 17 first downs, 11:07 time of possession
Troy: 358 passing yards, 22-142 rushing, 17-28-0 passing, 19 first downs, 18:53 time of possession
Over the season, how has the defense played in the second half? Will we begin to limit Troy some to slow them down?
Individual halftime stats
Rushing: Lane 8-44, Neal 3-8, Patterson, 1-(-1)
Passing: Bray 16-25, 313 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT
Receiving: Hunter 6-102, 2 TD; Patterson 4-150, 1 TD; Z. Rogers 2-26; Lane 1-13
Tackles: B. Moore 10, A.J. Johnson 6, E. Gordon 4, J. Toney 4

Cordarrelle Patterson was late coming out of the locker room to start the second half. He wasn't back deep to return the opening kickoff.
Nice run by Marlin Lane. Gain of 37 to the Troy 21. A little more than a minute into the second half, the Vols already threatening in Trojans' territory.
Lane is running well today.
Your team. All the time.
The Vols run it on third-and-3 at the 14, and Marlin Lane is stopped for no gain.
Vols settle for 31-yard field goal by Michael Palardy to extend their lead to 34-30 with 11:47 left in the third.
Field goals won't do it unless Sal actually fixed a few things at halftime, which I seriously doubt.
Lane may not have Neal's speed but he has better vision IMO.
