He hasn't been to the NCAA tourney in any of his years coaching. We have started slowly, got hot, then blew the game we needed to win in back to back years. What reality am I missing there?
Tnoak, the voice of reason. Thank you for addressing that post in a diplomatic way, because I'm too frustrated to do as much at the moment.
I discussed Tennessees resume last night. Feel free to read recent posts. We are in.
Trae disappeared again, McRae played his worst in a while, but we still had a chance to win if we could have adjusted our ball screen defense just a little.
So? It's still the responsibility of the players ON THE FLOOR to do their jobs. Neither Coach Martin nor Coach Grant make the plays for their players. You and LCBSK both seem to willfully ignore that simple reality...
Get out of here with that "logic" stuff, Alex. That's just crazy talk.
4 wins vs top 50. 9 vs top 100. 34 SOS. That's best among bubble teams. I know emotions are high right now but when the committee sits down to compare teams they will not be able to justify leaving UT out.
I agree. To many good wins and really on 2 bad loses. And also i know their is no such thing as a "good loss" but the 1pt Gtown loss is looking good.

There are only four answers to any question: Yes, No, I don't know, or the Correct Answer.
I'm a basketball coach, so I know the players make the plays to win the game. With that said, Cuonzo flat out got out coached today.
You make valid points. It's a fact that he hasn't made the tourney. It's also a fact that he has lost 2 games that could have propelled the team into the tourney.
But it's also a fact that he coached a team into contention without it's best player and a pure PG. Not to mention that he coached McRae into the probable SEC Player of the Year. His coaching is what got us into contention. Maymon was our offense last year. When we lost him we lost a large portion of our inside presence, and this team is not a finesse team. To win basketball games you need a consistent PG. We do not have that. Yet, we still.might make the tournament. Time will tell, but what Cuonzo has done with this team is impressive.
1 Corinthians 16:13 Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
I didn't know we could blame anyone else, but the coaches. Who knew.....
COUNZO had nothing to do with guys missing lay ups. Players have bad games in basketball and when the whole team has a bad day there is nothing the coach can do. last yr. Mayman and Golden could hardly walk
GO BIG ORANGE!!!
You asked for the down votes you got them plus an ignore. lol indeed!
He got out-coached today (that's not the only reason we lost, but that's part of it). I'll agree with that.
I'm not saying he's an elite coach, but he's a good one, and I'm not ready to apply the "can't win the big one" label to him yet. How many times over the last month have we played "the game"? Florida, Missouri, then this have all been "the most important game of the year." He got his teams to rise up and win two of those, providing his team an opportunity to win the next "most important game of the year." And remember when we were down 8 near the end of the Mizzou game? He gets no credit for that comeback? And last year, the final game against Vandy was the "must win", and he gets no credit for that either? Sucks that we lost today, but can't forget about how we got here.
As far as never making the NCAA tournament, by no means does it make you a bad coach to never make the tourney at freaking Missouri State. And last year, just making the NIT was an accomplishment compared to expectations. And this year, our fate is not sealed. We still have a decent chance of making it in. Don't give up yet.
His name is definitely spelled CUONZO. Players do have bad games, but our defense shouldn't have suffered because of our inability to score.
Alright Coach K, what would you do if your players are missing wide open 3s and easy bunnies at the rim?
Ignoring and down voting people for having a minority opinion is why I hardly post on here.
Best post in this thread. +1
Haha there's nothing you can do about missed shots. What I'm disappointed in is the ball screen defense. They continued to exploit is over and over again and we never changed it.
I will agree with that. The phantom downvotes just for expressing your opinion are not cool. I would even guess the majority of your downvotes aren't even giving you a response. +1 to you for speaking your mind, even if I disagree.
When you are a defensive minded coach, the players have to finish at the rim and make free throws and also have to have a true point guard
Great post and I agree with most of it. However, if you give Cuonzo credit for all of the big wins he has (Flordida multiple times, Vandy last year, Mizzou this year etc..), it's only fair to criticize him for the big losses he has had. That's all I'm saying. +1
