I just saw on csnphilly.com that he will be out the opening series against the Phillies and is meeting w/ James Andrews. Any concerns there? Huge break for the Phils who bat Utley Howard at 3 and 4.

He'll be out longer than that. Strained throwing elbow.
And he looked awful this spring before he hurt it.
Big blow to the Braves.
Sounds like a pretty big concern, based on what I've heard about it. The Braves still have O'Flaherty who can handle lefties in the late innings, but there's no doubt it would hurt them to lose Venters for any major length of time.

Phils are taking 2 of 3. Hamels and Lee vs. Hudson and Maholm. Major mismatch.
"Give him six" "We don't give a damn about the whole state of Alabama" "Grit N Grind"
Dont we still have kimbrel also?
Fredi's a horrible manager. Just horrible.
Maybe not Jim Tracy bad...but holy crap can Fredi mismanage a lineup and pen.
It's very frustrating seeing the way he manages this team, especially the bullpen. He relies to much on one or two guys and kills em.
Utley and Howard may impress Phil's fans but they don't scare anyone else anymore. Howard's bat gets slower by the week.
You must not be paying attention to Spring Training (which doesn't always mean anything) but they are both healthy for the 1st time in 2 years., Utley for probably 3 years.

Ventures will def hurt but do think that Atl has the bats to do some damage even againest Hamels and Lee - going to be a good series but only one of many this year
I totally agree he has no idea whatsoever on when to pull a pitcher or when to leave him in.
This is what happens when you have a violent delivery and struggle to repeat your mechanics.
Venters will start the season on the DL and is scheduled to meet with Dr Andrews who did his tommy John surgery several years ago..so doesn't sound very promising in the short term. But luckily we've got several lefties, including Avilan, that can feel the void
No problem the Atlanta pen is deepest in the majors
