Just bashed the Tennessee/Bama rivalry on College Football Live saying it means nothing to new age fans. Saying that 60 years ago it mattered, but now it doesn't. He just doesn't ever shut it.
I am so glad he is no longer on Sirius XM. I used to have to turn the station whenever he came on. Now I can just leave it on XM91. Can't stand him.
Who cares. Seriously. Amazing how one guy's opinion rustles so many jimmies. Switch the channel if you don't get what he's doing.
I'm 18 years old. It matters to me.
Please don't downvote me, because this is only my opinion. I'm as big of a UT fan as anyone...but he has a point. To people that were born from 1995 and on (like this recruiting class) the rivalry really doesn't mean a whole lot unless they have grown up around Bama and Tennessee fans. Sure historically, UT vs. Bama is as big of a rivalry as any. But to a 17 or 18 year old kid growing up in California, all they know is that Bama is the most dominant team in the country, and that UT has been down for quite a while. They have no idea how fierce the rivalry once was--and still is among fans.
Really? Did the rivalry matter in the late 90s to early 2000's?

I agree that it may not matter to a kid who doesn't know much about us but if they sign with Tennessee they will soon learn that it matters. The tradition of both schools are at the top of the charts and almost anyone involved with the schools as a fan or player doesn't want the rivalry to go away.
Yeah I'm gonna disagree too. I'm 21 and it matters to me. It still mattered when Bama sucked for so many years. But it doesn't work on the flip side? I can't justify a double-standard.
Alabama will always be my most hated rival but it seems like the majority of people that I talk to, under 30, point to Florida as the marquee rivalry.
It is inevitable that will will not play Alabama every year at some point. I don't even think that nine game schedules will save it forever. I hate Alabama as much as anyone, but I am afraid this series is going to die anyway. Sometimes history does become a thing of the past.
There are only four answers to any question: Yes, No, I don't know, or the Correct Answer.
I've heard him talk about this before and to simply say that he says it doesn't mean what it used to is taking his remarks out of context. And granted he doesn't always take the time to explain it well. His point was that prior to the start of division play the winner of the game had the inside track to win the SEC. Year after year it was THE game in the SEC. It doesn't mean that the fans don't care. It simply means that winning and losing the game - which isn't even a division game - doesn't have the impact on the SEC race the way it used to.
I heard him on the Van Pelt show and I was surprised at how much he bashed Bama, especially on the national championship stuff. Like him or not, he is on ESPN now and we'll see a lot of him. He is the cornerstone of the SEC Network.

Don't try to justify it. Feinbaum is still a putz.
Yes, God forbid we hear something reasonable when something false and inflammatory will do.
I'm just messing with you. Your explanation is quite reasonable. I just could never stand the format of his show and the callers he had on it. He is alright though.

I think Bama is still our biggest rivalry but you said most people under 30 (28) think its Fla. I use Fla as a measuring stick as to how our season will play out. I thinks that's why so many people focus on that game
there are many younger Tennessee fans wishes that series would end. they don't appreciate the rivalry.. I hear almost every day
Frankly, very few young fans will care about the rivalry until it becomes a rivalry again. That is to say Tennessee needs to win a few.
Florida, UGA, and USC should be biggest rivals now being in the east. Not sure you could call TN Bama a rivalry right now not really competitive with them.
Luckily we don't let young people make key decisions like this...or media members like PF. I know I didnt need to decide things like this when I was 18-25+
It was big when I was just getting into football in the mid 90's and continued to be big even when Phil whipped them 7 years in a row. If anyone says a win streak kills a rivalry, then they've never been a part of a rivalry.

He's pushing SEC's agenda. 9 games is what they want.
