I really like this hire for the Wolfpack, even though I am still surprised they fired their coach
Huge hire. If Doeren had been coaching there instead of N. Illinois the past few years, he would probably be our next coach.
Guess they talked before the MAC game last night huh, cause that did not take long at all
You knew Doeren was going somewhere. He's too good to stay in the MAC.
Good for them. I figured he was headed to the B10.
Love Doeren. He will be in the SEC in 5 years or less.
Possibly as the HC of NC State based on some of the realignment rumors...
I think if the SEC wants to open the market in North Carolina they would look at UNC first. Better in all sports than NC State and bigger fan base
UNC will never leave Duke.
If Dave Doeren is anything he's definitely honest. A few weeks back he was asked about his interest in other jobs should they come calling, and he just matter-of-factly said that he would listen if better offers came his way, there is nothing wrong in doing what is in your families best interest when the right opportunity comes, but not just shopping for any offer for more money. So much for that speculation, and I'm willing to bet 90% of you on here had never even heard about this interview on satellite radio. New he would take off NIU it was the perfect launching pad for him because Jerry Kill left him in good shape , and he had been recruiting that area during his stint at Wisconsin. It is actually not surprising he took the NC State job because he has ties there, and I remember he was pretty actively recruiting the area when he was with Wisconsin. He's just a really good coach and his players love playing for him and he has that "it" factor. Bielema had been telling anyone who would listen to him for years that Doeren was a rising star and would eventually make a name for himself as Head coach at some point.
I did read on one article not from here but from SportingNews so take it at that, that if SEC did expand it would go for UNC and Duke so they wouldn't have to leave each other. Although that is complete opposite of what people expected the SEC to do since all of this started. Although at that point you would be looking at the premier football and basketball league in the nation.
Edit: Had to add link to article in case anyone wanted to read

I wonder if they already had talked to him BEFORE they let O'Brien go?
