He has proposed selling TVA to the private sector. Maybe I'm a little biased, but I work for TVA and this is very upsetting to me. From my perspective, this would mean the possibility of job losses, 401k loss, and pension loss. For the people living in the 80,000 square miles of the TVA service area this would mean a LARGE increase in electric bills.
I was wondering what everyone on the board thought since most of us are in this service area??
In before GO VOLS
There are only four answers to any question: Yes, No, I don't know, or the Correct Answer.
Made it in!
I wasn't aware of this being that kind of topic. Lol. I was just looking for honest opinions
There will be none of that for any of us before too long. This country is going to poop quickly . Good luck
Not an unfair question, but these never go well..
Any more political comments along the lines of this post and we'll have to nuke the thread. Consider this a warning, although I'm tempted to just lock it now.

Whats considered a political comment ? and I am being serious he didn't reference any particular party or anyone if i said this country is going to poop because of "so and so" that seems different then an obligatory this country is going to poop comment no? what If I said this country is going to poop because have too many gators fans?.... does that count?
Sorry Ryan! Was more looking for pros and cons of TVA becoming private and not a political thing.
What I'm about to say has no reflection on you personally grunt because I've not spent any time in your particular section of the company, but after hearing stories from several engineering co-ops that worked with a few teams of draftsmen at TVA, I'm of the opinion that the company could certainly stand to have some fat trimmed.
"Count it down with me. Five, four, three, two, one.
The national champion is clad in Big Orange!"
Stupid phone!! Lol

Basically I wouldn't agree with it because as far as I understand it covers most all of TN and I would say 50% of the surrounding states in some cases so if you let one company have that its going to lead to a monopoly and no fair service for the actual customers unless there was a contractual obligation that stated rates cannot differ from this margin and so on and so forth but still I could understand selling it piece by piece in sectors or something but for one private company to takeover no way
No offenses taken from anyone. That's what I love about conversation is everyone has an opinion
Lol ok.. I won't say poop
I would just hate to see TVA broken up. It's the main reason energy prices are as low as they are in this area. Granted its still expensive, but compared to the rest of the country they are among the lowest.
I'm missing something. How is this a political thread? Just because the government owns TVA?
I guess because I referenced country and the title says Obama
Because it's the president's idea, and any comment on this quickly could turn into political commentary.
Listen you don't expensive till you live in Florida 120-170$ a month for electric and 80-120$ for water 30 for sewage for a 2-2 1200Sq FT 120$ a month for full car insurance for my monster jeep with a cleaning driving record as well its expensive as all get out I wish I had TVA Rates....but the breaking up doesn't necessarily mean more expensive rates it could mean competition between companies which is not always a bad thing for the consumer it might suck as that means they might cut employees but for the consumer its not always bad.
I thought everyone believed government should not be involved in big business. The private sector can do it better. At least that is what people said during the auto bailout. However, I like TVA how it is.
My bill is like that now and tva is right down the street lol
I think as long as we are polite and respectful and not bashing someone for being this or this or for voting one way or another its not a bad thing to have discussion on it and it doesn't always have to turn into a nasty cat fight just saying you know? Everyone has bad ideas from time to time from a pastor to the president doesn't mean we shouldn't be allowed to discuss one way or another without ad hominem popping up every three seconds
