Dang really all my family up there always complains about how expensive Florida is and how much better they have it ?
Yeah not too mention I get hit with city and county taxes
I agree that companies could go at it and turn out better for the consumer, but I also think that is short term. In the long run it would eventually become a money is power thing and prices would spike.

In before the lock also. This thread has potential to go downhill really fast.
Or would cause TVA to be more cost effective and operate like a business. The thing that would scare me is that it would be a monopoly with no market competition.
That's my biggest worry. Yes things need to be fixed. However, they could get much worse.
Prices are set by supply and demand in a free market- unless your big oil or energy.
Sorry- you beat me to it. We think alike.
Some people wanted change their getting it!! Go Vols!!!

Those kind of posts cause stuff to be locked you know especially when there's good commentary going on come on buddy no need
I think it's too big of a risk to take. TVA would be a monopoly if privatized and as someone already said, there would be opportunity to cut jobs to maximize profit as well as raising prices later on. If there was competition I wouldn't have as big of a problem with it, but as of right now I would have to against it. I hope some more info comes out on this because it will affect a lot of people I know.

Any potential job loss will be upsetting. But with that said BOTH public and non-public companies continuously restructure, streamline, and cost cut. Sometimes they merge, sometimes they're bought out. And in any one of those scenarios there is the potential for job losses. It's the nature of the beast. But it's never the fault of any one person... which you seem to insinuating.
With that said this is a forum for talking sports. Let's try to keep it that way.
It's already a monopoly, just a government monopoly that has no incentive to be effective and keep costs low because it's carried on the back of the taxpayers for what it can't make up in revenue.
I'm not insinuating anything. It was a question that was looking for intelligent conversation. With that said, your opinion is greatly appreciated.
As far as it being a sports forum, there are many topics posted that are not sports related. Sometimes venturing out and asking questions on something other than sports is a good conversation starter.
I'm guessing the down vote came from you. So much for that thoughtful 'discussion'. But I'll respectfully disagree...I've never thought of politics as a conversation starter.
I don't give out down votes. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion. And I've had many good conversations regarding politics. However, this is not a political thread. It is concerning TVA becoming privately owned and the pros and cons of that endeavor. Thanks.
