I just crawled up in a ball... That was GROSS!!
Motherfu....that may end his career. Thats why I am so glad they put the extra base beside first when we played softball
That might be the nastiest baseball injury I've ever seen
It was truly awful. Thank goodness they didn't replay it more than once.
I've seen nastier in baseball, but that was gruesome for sure! And to Huddy?! Everybody likes them some Huddy!!
Nobody is complaining about having too many starters now.
Just hope it is a break with no ligament damage.
This is out of character for me...or I think it is but I don't share the announcers take that Young had no where to go. I expected he would step on Huddy's foot but he went to the inside edge of the bag. Had he gone to the center or outside edge it might not have been that bad. Was Huddy's foot well into the bag...yes. However, Young stepped on the upper part of the ankle. Was it deliberate...I don't know but at best it was the worst piece of baserunning I have seen in a while.
This sucks so bad man. Just gonna pray that this wasn't his last game.
Huddy needs our prayers.
Prayers up for Huddy. That made me a little squeamish.
That should come with a warning!
I edited a warning into original post.
Your team. All the time.
Didn't see it happen, and have only seen the replay, but I'll add my two cents. As a high school first basemen, we were taught that the bag belongs to the runner. Our foot placement should always be on the edge of the bag to save ourselves from this very thing. I've never pitched, but I know that's one of the most difficult positions to field and having to concentrate on catching the feed from the first basemen/second basemen while sprinting full speed towards the first base bag and making contact with said bag cannot be easy. Like Ghost said, hopefully it's all skeletal damage and no soft tissue/nerve damage.
To the various posters that said everyone "has to love Huddy", no offense to the man, but I could care less about "Huddy" or the Braves. Go Cards...go 'Merica.
*that last sentence was said in jest. I'm truly sorry the man got hurt and I sincerely hope that he returns healthy*

That was awful. Even worse if you're a Braves fan. Sucks.
Worst I've ever seen was Moises Alou's leg way-back-whenever . . .

THIS JUST IN: Tim Hudson's gruesome injury vs Mets is a fractured right ankle. (via @Braves)

I was watching the live broadcast when this happened. The replays showed, in all honesty, that Young didn't intentionally do this. He immediately went into almost a sliding stop and reversed direction back to Huddy with very serious concern. He said in interview he knew it was broke as soon as it happened (probably heard it snap). Young left the field with tears rolling down his cheeks as Huddy was carted off. It's a freak thing IMHO. I'm actually surprised this type of thing doesn't happen more often at 1st base as this type of play is pretty normal in a ballgame and I've seen many close calls before.
Yikes. That was awful.
Although, I think I would trade in one of my 3 ACL/MCL tears and surgeries for one of those.......
I'm sure he did regret it after it happened.
There is no way he did it on purpose.
The timing of play was a split second. I am sure he didnt plan it to happen since he was extending out to try and reach the bag.
