First, for those that may have been offended, I apologize. I understand that some people were late to the party and caught the end of the "battle". Catching the end of the battle probably made it look a lot worse than it really was. I wouldn't want to sort through 30 pages of comments either. But, not being in it from the beginning made it appear pretty bad. It was a fun ribbing session between a few of us with everybody being welcome. It was not meant to be hurtful or serious in ANY way. It was meant to crack some people up and give everyone a good laugh. Again, if the thread offended anybody, you have my sincerest apology. That was not in any way what we were going for.
Second, I would like to tip my hat to the "old farts". They brought the heat and came with the pain. (Not joint pain either! Sorry, I had to) It was a knee slapper for sure! I haven't laughed that hard in a LONG time. A lot of the laughing came at my expense too. But, that's what it's all about. Good fun between good guys.
Lastly, I'd like to give a big shout out to chief Pepe, Tntoak, OrangeVol, OrangeNcarolina, and Ram_Lock! You guys have my utmost respect and it was an honor going to battle with you gentlemen. Seasoned veterans for sure! For everybody else that took part it our off topic fun fest, thank you. You guys were awesome!
Final score: A humble draw...

+1 This shows why this site is the best:classy posters. I didn't participate in the thread but enjoyed the banter in the early pages of the thread. The fact that I still consider myself a young gun just proves that I am actually a senile "old fart". Thanks for the laughs TB.
Thank you, sir! +1 to you as well. I'm glad that you enjoyed it. I had a blast with it. The "old farts" were ready for war and I was in tears from laughing! Age is nothing but a number. Everyones still a young gun. The gun might have a little rust on it but, it still packs the heat just the same!
I read it all, but then I'm an old fart who can speed read
+1 to TB for his sportsmanlike post above. I'd like to think all Tennessee fans can dish it out and then shake hands afterwards and share a cold one with the "enemy."
I appreciate ya! I'd be honored to share a cold one in the future! Thanks for stopping in to enjoy a laugh with us! +1
Yep, just cant take things too seriously. I boxed for several years and sparred with some of my best friends. Cant remember anyone ever getting mad no matter how it turned out.

I'm going to slightly high jack the thread for a sec. But you bring up an excellent point HopVol. I have always loved competing against friends because we are more intense and it elevates everyone's game. I wrestled in high school and do MMA now. I can't say much about boxers dodging fights with friends because not many of them claim to be friends. But UFC amazes me sometimes. Many of the elite guys training together and are close friends. I am constantly shocked when one them starts doing well, they become shocked that their friend wants to step in the octagon and throw down. When Tito Ortiz held the title, he claimed it ruined his relationship with Chuck Liddel because the Iceman wanted his belt. Even more recently, Rashaad Evans getting all bent out of shape because his former training partner Jon Jones stepped in when Evans got hurt and could compete for the belt. Jones took the belt and gave Evans one of his first defense, because he thought his friend deserved the shot. Evans is still upset that Jones didn't lay down or step to the side and just give him the belt.
Sorry for the rant....
And congrats to the Old Farts. Their years upon years upon years upon years of experience seemed to pay-off as they were a bit more organized. Thanks to all for the good times and funny jokes.
+1 Tre!!! It was a good fun thread! I started off hot then fizzled pretty quick but enjoyed everyone going back and forth. I actually learned a few things from the "older generation" through some of their posts but overall it was fun. It's ashame if anyone was offended but there again, you can't please everyone. And to pepe and tntoak, so glad from the big picture of things were on the same side. Don't think I'll ever cross either of you in the future! Commend tre for trying to hang in but he had no chance! Great job vol fans!!
Good stuff Mike, I love MMA. I used to be a huge boxing fan. I had boxes upon boxes of VHS tapes of boxing but I just kinda lost interest over the years. Boxing got boring to me and the corruption was ridiculous. MMA has renewed my interest in the pugilistic arts . My roommate back then was a boxer too. We used to move the furniture back in the living room and work on different things in the apartment. He was actually much better than me and later turned pro.
I had a blast too guys, sucks it got locked but Kevin had his reasons for doing so, it was a great battle I had fun.
I can tell you that I was never offended by anything in the thread- no way a young punk could ever get to me!
And my 6000th post goes out to TreBonez- you are well on your way to growing up and being useful to this society. With time comes knowledge and with knowledge comes power and wisdom!

I appreciate the 6000th post! I hope that one day I can bring the heat to the young "punks" like you all did. It was an honor doing battle with you! +1
Thanks for joining in! Definitely was a fun one. It had to have set a record for most posts in two days.
HEY! Just whose side are you on anyway!? lol Yeah we started hot and then they came out of the woodwork! Still a blast though. Thanks for joining in, brotha!
Truth be told, there was no "organization" on our part, at least in terms of setting out a plan of action was concerned. It was more about timing rather than organization. Hell, I know most of my posts in that thread were completely impromptu in nature and made up on the fly based on how the thread was going. I did know that PepeVol would come in later in the day with his best material, because that's just how he rolls.
As far as the thread getting locked goes, I think it was more because of the repetitive nature of things after the first day than any other factor, although the last page and a half or so did not live up to the quality of their predecessors.
Got locked because of PM's from some users that were offended.
A lot of classy and complimentary posts in this thread. It is no surprise because this is the way we treat and respect each other in this Neighborhood. The battle thread was totally tongue in cheek material and no one was dissing anyone else in earnest. If my comments offended anyone, my sincerest apologies. It is my intent to have great discussions with the great posters of the CheckerBoard and have a lot of fun doing so. To anyone not following the thread from where it started on another thread, it certainly could have been misinterpreted. Kudos to all who participated and took it in stride and in the manner it was intended. Forgiveness sought from anyone who thought otherwise. 3bones, good thread. +1 GO VOLS!
