While I am definitely on board with CBJ and I like a lot of what he doing so far I do have one reservation about his coaching staff decision. Jancek and Martinez are our DC and DB coaches now, they were Co-DC's at Gerogia in '09 and got canned by Richt for having a very ineffective defense which caused then to switch from 4-3 that year to the 3-4 since then. Now I realize that they have had a lot of experience coaching since then and have probably developed much more effective coaching techniques. However, does anyone else seem the least bit concerned with these hires or should I just chalk up these feelings to being so deflated from the horrible defense we had this year that I am just trying to be too picky at this point. Hopefully someone can provide me with a little more insight. Thanks.
IT TAKES NO TALENT TO HUSTLE
I think the fact that Martinez got the opportunity to be a DC at UGA speaks to the fact that he was at least a solid position coach.
Good points OP.
I don't think when anyone says elite coaching staff they think of Janacek and Martinez. That said, Sal was just horrible, so I think there is some value in getting in coaches who have run an SEC defense before.
Yeah, I am going to do my best to stay positive about it. I hope the best for them, and good for them, they will have to try really hard to be worse that Sal this year. I am reasonably confident with the talent we have on the roster that whatever defense they put on the field will not be giving up 500 yds and 40 pts every game.
