Every year, on every board this comes up. With that being said I'm thinking lane off tackle.
Maybe not what I expect, and not really an offensive play, but I would love to see an onside kick to start the season.
I predict...out first offensive play of the 2012 season will be....a punt.
but really, I predict Bray to Hunter for the T D!
Just for fun, here are Tennessee's first offensive plays of the year, starting in 2005:
2005 -- UAB: Gerald Riggs rush 7 yards to the UT 29
Drive: 8 plays, 49 yards, field goal
2006 -- Cal: Erik Ainge pass complete to Robert Meachem for 41 yards to the Cal 47
Drive: 4 plays, 48 yards, punt
2007 -- @Cal: Erik Ainge pass complete to Austin Rogers for 6 yards to the UT 30
Drive: 5 plays, 20 yards, fumble (returned for Cal touchdown)
2008 -- @UCLA: J. Crompton pass complete to Arian Foster for 9 yards to the UT 38
Drive: 3 plays, 8 yards, punt
2009 -- WKU: J. Crompton pass complete to Quintin Hancock for 7 yards to the UT 43
Drive: 4 plays, 18 yards, interception
2010 -- UT-Martin: T. Poole rush for 8 yards to the UT 43
Drive: 12 plays, 62 yards, field goal
2011 -- Montana: T. Poole rush for 1 yard to the UT 32
Drive: 3 plays, -7 yards, punt
Average gain: 11 yards
Scoring drives: 2
FIeld goals: 2
Record in season openers: 5-2
Tennessee hasn't scored a touchdown on its first drive of the season since 2003 against Fresno State, an 8-play, 76-yard drive that ended in a nine-yard touchdown pass from Casey Clausen to James Banks.

Interesting stuff, Wes. Thanks for posting. +1
That just goes to show that, even when coaches have an entire offseason to think about what they want to do on their first offensive snap of the season, it seldom turns out to be a game-changing play.

Well, that Meachem bomb was pretty epic. :D
DaRick in the slot takes a hand off to the wide side of the field-picks up 18.
It'll be a safe call. Three receivers. Shift. Rivera motion to playside off left tackle to kick out an end or backer. Tiny and Dallas maul the inside man. Tiny peels off to chip the inside backer.
We gain 6.
In my dream we go no huddle after that.
