Vol Nation has its moments. We just not going to scream our guts out 24-7.
It's not a basketball school. Tennessee isn't UNC or Duke or Kansas so the fans won't be 100% tuned in all the time.
I agree. I was at the Florida game and the students and a few other sections were into it, but most people would clap softly like they were at the opera. It looked like the same thing on TV today at the Missouri game. Many of the football games are the same way. I thought fan was short for fanatic. If people would stand up and go crazy they might surprise themselves and truly enjoy the game.
Tennessee is an old-money crowd. At least they buy basketball tickets and show up, which is more than happens at most SEC venues.
I used to worry about this stuff, but I'm about over it. A supportive crowd helps, but most college athletes aren't going to pee their pants if meemaw lets out a rebel yell.
Also, Tennessee hasn't worked up a good hate for Missouri yet. Give it time.
when ever im at a football game the crowd is crazy.! But i do agree with the basketball part
Guessing from you name you are currently a student. The student section is great, but many times at football games the crowd isn't as loud as Neyland should be. I guess several years of struggling on the field has hurt things a bit. JMO.
You hit it square on the head! During the season, the normal crowd of regular ticket holders is kinda reserved and quiet. I noticed a big difference in the NIT games last year when tickets were put on sale to the general public for the lower sections. Folks who wanted to be there, got to sit in the bottom without it breaking the bank. Without a doubt it was two of the loudest crowds, outside of the Kansas game a few years ago, that I have heard in TBA. BY FAR.
Why can't we be a basketball school too....Florida is, Ohio State is, Oklahoma is, even Oregon is trying to be. The excuse of we aren't a basketball school is weak (sorry, but my opinion). We are a big enough school and a big enough athletic department to compete with the peers I just listed and be supportive of all our programs.
theres way to many blue hairs in neyland stadium now everytime im at a game i get looks for being loud and cheering. (not being obnoxious but just being a fan) thats what our problem is if people want to watch a game go watch it on tv but if you want to cheer go to the game theres no reason why stadiums with 20000 less people should ever compare to neyland. i remember back in the day when neyland would shake it would get so loud in there but its not anything like that anymore
Our student section not being on the floor doesn't help much! But we are not even close to the quietest fans you must not have traveled to some of the other schools for games
YESTERDAY WAS THE QUIETEST 21,375 people I have EVER heard. A big game, senior day, NCAA on the line. We won but I was disappointed in the atmosphere.
Not saying you can't... But the teams you mentioned have all had a lot of success before and sustained it. Tennessee can be both if they consitently make the tournament and get to the sweet 16. The teams you mentioned do that.
