Just wanted to gauge the boards opinion on bringing in Ron Zook for DC. Dude is a monster out on the trail, and he connects with mommas. He helped haul in Arrelious Benn to Illinois of all places. This guy could be a nice asset to the team. What do you guys think?
There are only four answers to any question: Yes, No, I don't know, or the Correct Answer.
I mentioned it in an earlier thread. He can coach D and your are right he is a monster recruiter.
I hate to say it, but my guess is he brings his DC from Cincy...
I just don't think I can ever forgive the guy for what he did to us while he was at Florida. Maybe the past should be the past but.......it just plain stunk!
I think he will to but he's a good coach and has ties to the south from when he coached at UGA, wouldnt be a bad hire imo
Formally known as govols011 - follow me on twitter @C_Dillard6
Why was he fired from UGA?
When he fired Willie Martinez, he gave the next dc the option to hire his assistants. I'm not saying he's the best d coordinator in the world but he's better than Sal. He's a lot like Wilcox, uses more of bend don't break mentality.

If I'm Butch Jones, I'm calling John Chavis, Gene Chizik, Randy Shannon and Ron Zook in that order to gauge their interest before I decide to bring in John Jancek. I believe all of them are more experienced, successful coordinators with much greater recruiting ties to the South and would be a better fit.
All in on Zook
He is solid but I would rather hire Kevin Steele the guy is a monster on the recruiting trail!
The Orange Bowl details scare the crap out of me... I'll pass
I am good with Zook and everyone needs to get over faxgate, we dont have the luxury to be picky anymore. steele would be good also.
What are the chances Jancek gets retained as the HC at cinci?
John Jancek has recruited the South - especially Georgia - for years. The others may be better DCs but I can assure you they do not have deeper recruiting ties than Jancek.
Most of us would prefer Jones assemble an all-star staff, but it would appear he is loyal to his guys and plans to bring them down, with the exception of keeping Graham and maybe hiring Tee.
He is the boss and it is his choice. As we well know, his decision on his coordinators may well make or break him at Tennessee. We have to hope he knows what he is doing.
I'd be on board with Zook or Steele, but my under-the-radar-can't-miss guy is Tyrone Nix who's at MTSU. He was a Broyles Award candidate as DC with Nutt at Ole Miss, huge recruiter, big personality.
I have no idea how or why Nix fell out of the up-and-coming-defensive-coordinator buzz. Maybe he just has Nutt stink on him. Whatever the case, I think he deserves a look.
I think Chizik would have the best ties being a former SEC HC. But your point about Jancek is well taken... great point.
I have no doubt Chizik has extensive relationships in the South, but my point was that Jancek does also. I have no idea what kind of DC he would make - he did improve the unit's scoring and yardage stats year over year when he was DC - but from a recruiting perspective he is that he is a guy who can hit the ground running because he knows every HS coach in the southeast.

Like I said, it was a great point... I guess my question is, why didn't UGA promote him? I don't know enough about him to say whether he would be successful or not... willing to trust CBJ hough.
So it looks like we have plenty of good options for DC which is good news. Probably my biggest concern. Can't wait to get this staff in place and get rolling. We have a new image to go out sell to these players and I think CBJ will be able to sell TN better than anybody else has in a while. I am pumped guys. Go
