Erik Ainge said this morning on his show that 2 of his sources told him that Tennessee reached out to Gruden but he does not have interest in coming to Tennessee. He said he won't totally rule it out but also said there was basically no chance and Vol fans needed to temper our expectations but anyone on the list would be an upgrade to what we had in his opinion.
This is a little hard for me to believe because Gruden could have easily dispelled the rumors himself and there were several local and national sources saying he reached out to potential coaching staff regarding a job in the NFL or at Tennessee so I don't know that I totally buy that he didn't have any interest but just passing along what I heard.
I'd find it hard to believe at this point that Gruden had no interest.
Most sources are not ruling gruden out at this point
Ainge hasn't had a terrific track record thus far.
Maybe the coaches he has talked to about NFL or UT said yes to NFL but no to UT. Who knows, hope we get him.
I think his statement is more a function of bracing the listening audience for the possibility of letdown, rather than a result of some serious investigative reporting.
It's ainge! I love Ainge, he is very entertaining, but he is never right! Or his sources are never right! I like listening to him though! Especially the week before rival games!!! Gets md pumped!
If they want Gruden so badly why are we even interviewing someone else. I hope that I am wrong but we could hire him now not wait for two weeks.
I'm not at all saying this is what's happening, but aren't there requirements for interviews in government funded institutions? I used to be in finance at a Fortune 500, and it was crazy what we had to do in the interview process to comply with the anti discrimination laws etc.
well he is 100% wrong for a fact....... the problem is not gruden its hart. just talked to my previous source and said he doesnt think gruden is the guy hart wants.....
Very wise words silver. I do like and appreciate your use of the word "possibility". Until I hear it from Wes, Ryan or Kevin, I am going to keep hoping. If it doesn't work out, I will be disappointed of course, but still have confidence a good coach will be selected this time. +1
"Old School"! A strong defense wins championships!
I'm with you on this. I think Hart's #1 choice is Fisher. People can say I'm crazy but I think that's his guy. Whether or not he listens or takes the job well, we'll just have to be patient and see what happens.
We will get a coach who will be an improvement and that coach will inherit a roster with more talent to work with than what Dooley had when he took the job.
The search is too tight lipped. Don't believe any hand me down booster info.
Later in the show he said that he has sources saying its a done deal, sources saying its in the negotiation phases, and sources saying it is absolutely not happening. In other words, he has no idea.
It's the "Hyams Method" - cover every possibility, then take credit for the one you get right and ignore the 97 misses in the process.
man ill be happy when this is over...
