Ok fair point. I changed above post. Let's chat about it
There are only four answers to any question: Yes, No, I don't know, or the Correct Answer.
Exactly! Just because a bunch of us fans want us to succeed in basketball, does not mean it takes anything away from football success. There is no reason at all why a school can't be successful at both without taking away from each other. I care a heck of a lot more about basketball than football, so I know I'm in the minority.
Truth, we haven't made the ncaa tournament during ccm time at Tennessee. Yes it sucks. Yes it expectations should be higher, and yes next year is probably make our break. I think we all know this. Next year's team will be the most talented he has had in his tenure. Given that it stays assembled as it is now. The SEC also needs to help us out by scheduling better. We always play a tough non conference tilt, and the league needs to follow suit. The league is holding us back in these last two selections, but especially the current one. If the SEC wasn't in the dumpster in basketball we would have been in the tournament. Hell the pac 12 received 5 bids, and that league sucks. I don't disagree completely with anybody, but we made a pretty good run at this year and that was due in part to the leadership of ccm.
Like Dan Wolken tweeted a few minutes ago, the SEC should stop worrying about the scheduling and just worry about winning more games.

It was not the fault of the SEC that we lost 3 to Bama, 2 to Georgia, and 2 to Miss. Don't blame the selection process for our failures on the court. we win 2 of those 3 home games and we are in.
Whoa man, I didn't find his post too negative, he's stated his opinion and reasons why he feels that way which is why we have this board! I've read many negative posts that were intentionally made to rile everyone up and I don't believe that's his intention here. If it is then shame on me but, anytime someone doesn't think like the majority on here they get slammed when wanting to discuss it or told to follow another sport. We're all UT fans! If we all agreed everytime there would be nothing to discuss! While I don't agree w him, I certainly see why he feels that way and, in my opinion stated it in a more respectful way than others we've read during December. Jmo! GO VOLS!
Well his theory is wrong. That has been proven over and over again. Pac 12 although it sucks is better- five teams.
Missouri won plenty of high profile games and had been considered a lock for weeks now. Our second "lock" team in this league got a nine seed.
Minnesota got into the field- that is an average basketball team. The big ten is great though. 20-12
They didn't just simply win more games as Dan suggested. They won less than most.

Dude, read the rest of my post, I have taken up for the guy the whole time. I disagree, but i have taken up for him
We didn't lose three to Alabama. We lost one to Georgia with out golden, and ole miss won the SEC Tournament. They are not to bad, and i surely wouldn't count those vs miss as bad losses

I am a huge UT fan an admittedly struggle with my emotions over games and try not to post too soon after a loss. Here is what I think: I said earlier this year that I questioned CCM's ability to coach here. I saw one thing different this year that I did not see last year...at mid-season CCM FINALLY made a change in philosophy and personnel and went with a four guard lineup and also got a bit more open minded in defensive sets. The team after that point was totally different. Also a change going into next year is that for the first half of the season McRae was having much less minutes and coming off the bench. I think Maymon gives us much more upside than any freshman can, even as good as Hubbs is. I think admittedly CCM is still learning and he does have enormous potential...however, as stated multiple times before we need to see a team next year that is nowhere near the bubble. We should be ranked for the majority of next season. He took a step toward improvement this year and HAS TO build on it. If he does that then recruiting will take care of itself. Any parent that has CCM visit their son will feel good about trusting him because he is a GREAT man and mentor...I just hope he turns into a GREAT coach. I also would feel much better if this team doesn't come out and play like they did last year in the NIT. We need to come out and show the committee why they made a mistake. Jordan will be much more comfortable in the superstar role, Maymon will be back and as hungry as ever after sitting for an entire year, Stokes will hopefully have time to have worked on his back-to-the-basket game and continue to mature on the court, and hopefully we can come up with a formidable back up point guard that can come in when Trae disappears (as he tends to do several times each season). I am very excited about next year, but these kids and CCM have to keep growing and improving. Next year will determine CCM's fate and I hope he delivers. Now lets come out and support our team Wed night. GBO, VFL!

I gave you a +1 also man, didn't read further before commenting on your first post! I didn't feel like nick was being negative and thought everyone was going to start jumping on him. Thanks for being classy and my apologies. VFl
No worries at all man, +1 at you too. Just wanted to point out that some can have classify disagreements. One thing i love about our fanbase is that we are so passionate on both ends of the spectrum, and i think that makes us a unique fanbase.
Agreed! Lol. I also think we're all a lil on edge because our guys didn't make the dance and (to me) more importantly, no commitments today! CBJ is starting to slack off a lil! (
Oh man, i know i was ready to fight, denounce God, break up with the girlfriend i did not have, and spit at a rabbit i was so frustrated that we did not make it. Plus, no commitments, frustrating, ha!
But i took a deep breath, wrote a little, and decided that maybe i was being a tad too emotional.
Please find where I stated that we cannot be "successful" in both hoops and football. I both want us to, and believe we can, too. I just care more about success in football. You brought out the term "real basketball school," so what did you mean? I said I'd like to get to a Final Four, and is that not "successful"?
Now you appear to have backtracked from the rather inflammatory "real basketball school," to "very respectable program". You give examples of teams that do win at football schools WHERE THE FANS DON'T CARE NEARLY AS MUCH ABOUT BB AS FB, save perhaps Wisc., and they still care a bit more about FB. And BAMA? Please. Their fans don't give two hoots in heck about the fact their BB team beat us last week. Is Bama a real basketball sch..., er, very respectable program with "plenty of national attention," just because they're our last game and our last loss, fresh on your mind, and you thought Anthony Grant outcoached CCM?
We can't discuss this in any concrete fashion if you don't define exactly how much winning your very respectable program should have. First it was the fans' fault we were stuck with a bad coach because they weren't lighting a fire under his butt like they would at a real BB school, and now it's only about winning, and you cite a series of programs you'd like to be, none of whom have the psychotic basketball fan base of the true big boys. Maybe what you really want is Jeremy Foley as AD, who'll bring in Donovan as coach, since Florida has two NCs and one near miss in the last decade or so, and 99% of their fans couldn't care more than to say, "well, that's nice."
I'm sure you'll disagree, but it seems to me that your real answer is, "I just wanted us to win more than we did the last two years," and arguably one game more each year, since that would have gotten us into the tourney both years. Tell us who and what you want, with some specifics, and as the immortal Linda Richmond said, we'll "discuss".
We're ALL frustrated, and we'd all like to win more in basketball than we did the last two years, we're just not quite as upset as you seem to be, under all the circumstances.
