They do but coaching and character matter as much. If you go through an old Athlons and look at the top 100 from years past there is a large portion that don't make it to the next level. You still have to evaluate well and develop the talent.
Yep, you're right. Stars are a good indicator of potential, but they don't guarantee success. To anyone who puts all their faith and hope in stars, I give you the University of Texas.
Yes, AL has a lot of 4-5 stars, but that's not the whole story. They are very well coached, have great facilities and have a great tradition. I think all too often, fans assume that if you get a bunch of 5 stars, you will have success. I would concede that it does make it easier, but of those variables I just mentioned, superior coaching is the difference. Just look at what UL did to FLA. Once CBJ gets us winning, the 5 stars will come and with the great facilities and winning tradition that we have comes back, you will see us on TV looking like BAMA. Just try to be realistic, the 5 stars aren't gonna be breaking down our doors to play for us with back to back losing seasons and no bowls. We are gonna have to depend on great coaching to turn this thing around. Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but I think our time is coming.
Smasher, I have argued this same point feverishly. +1
