Do you guys really think that they would announce him as the coach before his bowl game? I can't imagine he wouldn't be there to coach it. What are your thoughts? Forgive me if this has been previously discussed.
I guarantee that, if hired, he will be announced before Louisville's bowl game. Even with the solid recruiting that the current assistants are doing, Dave Hart knows Tennessee can't afford to lose the recruiting season like that.
As far as whether he'd be officially hired and not coach in the BCS bowl? That's also pretty likely, in my opinion. Strong would be coming to UT to win BCS bowls, and I think he knows that his legacy won't be defined by the upcoming game against Florida, win or loss. Sometimes you just have to leave things behind, and while I don't envy anyone the decision of jumping ship before coaching in a major bowl game, it comes with the territory of being a successful head coach.
This was more directly pointed at Strong. I know we don't give an eff about their bowl game. I just know that Strong worked hard to get where he is at and can't imagine him bailing before the bowl game.
I think everyone so far gets that. The point is that that gets discussed before the hire. And Hart makes it very clear that Strong either accepts the position starting now, or doesn't get it at all.
Not that it makes Strong happy to do it. But it's damned if you do, damned if you don't. If he leaves, he misses a big bowl game. If he doesn't, he basically never gets hired to a better job, because coaches don't get hired after seasons in which they don't lead their teams to big bowl games....
If he is named the head coach at UT, he will be on the recruiting trail that night for UT. UL will have an interium coach in the Sugar Bowl.
I think whoever UT hires will be asked to start as soon as possible.
Your team. All the time.
