SI reviews Pat's new book. Interesting stuff.
Reprinted with permission from Sum it Up: 1,098 Victories, a Couple of Irrelevant Losses, and a Life in Perspective. Copyright 2013 by Pat Summitt. Written with Sally Jenkins. To be published by Crown Archetype, a division of Random House, Inc., on March 5.
great read - I always wondered what had caused the split. I had heard Geno had said some terribly suggestive things about Pat.
Thanks for sharing ATL! Going to have to get a copy when it hits the stands. +1
"Old School"! A strong defense wins championships!
I think she should have said what Uconn was up to in recruiting. It's like an obit that leaves out the cause of death.
I think there's a pretty good reason she's still not saying anything.

Great read! I think the last part of this should be required reading for both our teams before taking the court. Never! Never! quit. Hope it is read to our boys before the game tonight.
Good stuff my friend. Thanks for the find. +1
"Count it down with me. Five, four, three, two, one.
The national champion is clad in Big Orange!"
What? Why all the squeamishness? Geno got pictures?
Somethings should be left unsaid. Needless to say he would have to cross a line that should never be crossed.
I'm not buying that. If Uconn was recruiting dirty Summitt had the stature to call them out, and the duty. She didn't serve anyone by ducking the issue when she was coaching, and certainly not by peddling innuendo in her memoir.
I suspect her daddy would have expected her to straight-up de-lip that mouthy Yankee ass.

She didn't let it slide. She confronted it head on despite serious push back from Joan Cronan, Peterson and ESPN. She has never ducked anything at any point in her life. But unlike Geno she has integrity.
But it didn't make the book.
Wait a minute. This is the first I've heard that Summitt's AD and president and ESPN pushed back at her over Auriemma.. Could you elaborate? That apparently isn't in the book either.
It didn't make the book because she is not going to trade her integrity to increase book sales. She had good reason to cancel the series and even better reason not to make it public. Geno is a scumbag who would sell his soul to land a recruit or to help his cause. What benefit would there be to put it in the book other than financial? It could be something that affects more than just Pat and Geno.
Then why write the book at all?
Am I just supposed to cough up the cash, read the book and still wonder what the beef was? Geno ran her out of a restaurant and there was some weird fax. Not important.
What was the recruiting issue?
It's not enough to allege Auriemma is a scumbag with no particulars past tacky behavior.
The book is about more then her feud with Geno and she got into more detail there then has ever been said publicly before. Like I said it could involve more then just Geno and Pat and she feels it is something that should not be publicly. There are things that he said or did that crossed a line and she feels she would be crossing that same line by putting in the book. It is frustrating but Pat does things for a reason and they are almost always the right ones.
