This can't be good...
EvanDanielsFOX: Andrew Wiggins is meeting with John Calipari this afternoon.
Darth Cal already has the greatest recruiting class in the history of college basketball lined up. Wiggins is almost overkill.
I know the Kentucky freshmen say they are coming back but if I was Goodman, Poythress or Cauley-Stein (all of whom would be drafted) I would bolt for the NBA now. With this class coming in their minutes will be significantly reduced. Only Noel will keep his minutes next year, provided he is healthy.
Actually, I think this may lead to more of an implosion at UK. I'm not one to look at what happened with them this year as a pure indicator of anything, but Cal mentioned a couple of times that he just couldn't get this year's team to mesh, especially if you compare it to the NC team from the year before. I think it's probably the biggest downside to continually pulling in top talent at the level UK has been since he started there. Too many big fish doesn't always lead to big results.
This is getting ridiculous. Clearly a lot of UK players wont be coming back. They already have 7 commits - 6 are five stars! When is the last time a football team signed 6 5 stars?
Probably the last time a football program could promise "you'll be here for less than one full calendar year, have the option of being put on the easiest track the university has to offer, and then make millions in the league." I think that whole One-and-Done rule allows schools to play that card and Cal has clearly built one of the best pipelines for that. With football requiring their players to stay in school longer, you gotta factor in more variables.
I agree but this is still unbelievable. A basketball team has 13 scholarships and almost half of UK's team will be 5 star players. That is insane.
When is his meeting with ccm scheduled for?
I reiterate; something must be done about the "one and done" rule the NCAA has in place. Either get rid of it, or have the NBA put a rule in place where kids have to at least be juniors before they can declare for the draft. Otherwise we'll just see more this rule exploitation by men like Calipari, and more watered down draft classes in the NBA.
And +1 for the Star Wars analogy. Very nice.
It is not the NCAA's rule, it is an NBA rule. The only way to stop Cal is to let players go directly from high school to the NBA and the league has zero interest in that.

To your point, that's a lot of talent on the court at any given time. However, there is still only one basketball. Basketball, just like the other sports, needs role players. Superstars don't make good role players.
To stick with the Star Wars theme.....Chewy knew he wasn't hooking up with Princess Leia. He understood his role. And everyone knew that "at the end of the game" the light saber would be in Luke's hand.
Actually I stole it from the Wall Street Journal article on Kentucky. In the article they mention that Cal has recruited the top ranked player at every position. It's ridiculous.
