Travon Landry, our 2014 PG signee, is averaging 3.0 points per game and is shooting 22% from the field and 55% from the free throw line. He is only averaging 2.6 assists per game on a team with Andrew Wiggins and other top talent. I hope he develops but I have yet to find one article that praises his game. No wonder CCM and staff are looking for another point for next year.
Ugh. Gotta be a solid PG somewhere out there that wants to come play with some very talented players next year. Please find him Coach Zo!
BUTCH IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. GO VOLS!
With Andrew Wiggins on the team it is difficult to get assists. I don't know if you've watched any of their games but Andrew Wiggins shoots almost every time he gets the ball. They don't run much of an offense-not a lot of chances for assists.
"Count it down with me. Five, four, three, two, one.
The national champion is clad in Big Orange!"
His team was on tv a couple weeks ago and I watched most of the game. Basically there offense was get the ball to Wiggins and another top 50 player who is committed to FSU, get out of the way, and let them go one on one. Landry didn't even attempt a shot to my recollection and he played quite a bit. He did appear to handle the ball ok, but it seems that he might be very limited offensively. I think we definitely need to get
another PG in this class.
Very true. They have 3 other D1 commitments on that team. He basically brings the ball up the court passes it and doesn't get it back. Has no chance to put up stats.
but how does that explain his woeful FG and FT %..?
I raised this point to Wes on twitter one day. We need a solid PG that can distribute, knock down open shots, and not turn the ball over. I just can't see Landry being that player.
If we have good scorers on the team then I'm not as worried about him scoring but he must be able to run an offense, distribute the ball and not turn the ball over. I think there is concern about the number of turnovers that he has had. The fact that CCM is still looking for a PG tells you that he has concerns about Landry and probably pulled the trigger on the offer too soon.
I saw him play live against #7 La Lumiere out of Indianapolis at the Flyin' to the Hoop tourney in Dayton. The comments above are pretty accurate. They have 4 top 100 players, so it's hard to get shots. Huntington fell behind so they isolated Wiggins the entire 2nd half. I think Landry had 3 points and 2 assists. He looks strong and had some nice drives, just couldn't finish. He played pretty good defense and seemed to see the court well. He only had one 3 pt attempt which rimmed out. I wasn't blown away, but he looked like a solid player. By the way, his team lost that game. Findlay Prep played before them, and they looked a lot better than anybody else in the tournament. High School basketball looks a lot different than it did when I was at Heritage High School in the 80's.
