Steckenrider was smoother in the top of the second.
Pop out to first, walk, strikeout looking, strikeout swinging.
Nice response to the walk.
Vols 2, NIU 0, heading to the bottom of the second.

Wes, I think you're having a little too much fun calling youre favorite sport
Not that I mind though!

Bottom of the Vols' lineup goes 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 2nd.
Vols 2, NIU 0, going to the top of the 3rd.
Steckenrider cruising now.
1-2-3 in the top of the 3rd.
Vols 2, NIU 0, heading to the bottom of the 3rd.
Luther got on with an infield single to start the bottom of the third but was thrown out on a delayed steal. Something looked odd there.
Maddox flied out to CF, Osborne grounded out to 2B.
Vols 2, NIU 0, headed to the top of the 4th.
This will be Steckenrider's last inning, but he can still get the win. Doesn't have to go 5. Designated split game from the start. Many teams do that early in the season.
Steckenrider cruises through the top of the 4th.
Groundout to second, line out to left, bounced comebacker that he handled himself.
Vols 2, NIU 0, heading to the bottom of the 4th.
Close the book on Steckenrider: 4 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts, 47 pitches, 31 strikes.
Very good after getting a good break in the first.
Vols RF Chris Fritts, a good friend of Vol hoops guard Skylar McBee, also has a hideous redneck mustache.
Vols go down in order in the bottom of the 4th.
Steckenrider popped out in foul territory to the first baseman, Fritts looked at strike 3 — a fastball on the outside corner — and Pierce struck out swinging on a breaking ball in the dirt.
Vols 2, NIU 0, going to the top of the 5th.
New pitcher on the mound for UT: Robbie Kidd, a 6-1 freshman right-hander from Fairfax, Va.
Love this thread also!
Kidd gives up a walk and a sharp single to center, but he also got a 4-6-3 double play and then came back from a 3-1 count to end the inning with a strikeout.
Vols 2, NIU 0, going to the bottom of the 5th.
Vols add a run in the 5th.
Catcher Wes Walker singled to RF with one out and scored on right fielder Jared Allen's double into the RCF gap.
Allen thrown out going for 3rd. Remember, Serrano said the Vols will be ULTRA aggressive on the bases this season, and that was example No. 1. Most coaches might not have sent Allen there.
Luther then flied out to RF to end the inning.
Vols 3, NIU 0, going to the top of the 6th.
Allen the kid from good ole Polk County?
Steckenrider nearly hit another HR there, but again came up short. Smacked that one off the top of the wall in LCF.
Osborne walked before that, so Vols have runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out.
NIU meeting at the mound.

There's the big blow.
Pierce just jumped on a pitch and stroked it over the RCF wall for a 3-run homer.
Vols 6, NIU 0.
Bases clear, 2 outs, bottom 6th.
