I personally believe that a strong competitive SEC is good for our overall national recruiting effort even if we have to pull for Bama to beat Notre Dame for the National Championship. By the way I also really, really dislike Notre Dame.
I really hate to do that as much as I dislike the Tide. My ex-wife is from Birmingham. When we drove to Birmingham for me to meet her family I wore full TN regalia!
Would you have the Tide lower itself or would you rather rise to their level of competitiveness?
Okay fellow members, how do you feel about this issue?
Don't like either one of them. I hope they both lose!!!
The only other time I rooted for Notre Dame was when Jerome Bettis ran wild all over Florida in the 1992 Sugar Bowl. I will be rooting for them again. Bama winning the NC does nothing for Tennessee. Recruits love them and go there because they win. I am tired of watching them win and I hope the Irish beat them down.
Alabama is playing a football game?
I hate ND more than any team ever! I wish they both could lose but i will be for the SEC this game. I hope Vandy loses otherwise i will probably pull for the rest of SEC.
I see this as a recruiting issue. If the SEC is seen as strong and competitive it helps every SEC team recruit on a national level. If the SEC is not as attractive to national recruits they will be more likely to sign with teams closer to home. Therefore, Bama, Florida, GA and LSU winning out of conference are necessary evils in my mind. Would you rather compete with these teams on a national level with a large pool of talent or compete on a more regional level with a corresponding smaller pool of talent?
We must recruit nationally. That has been understood for years. At the same time our standing with high schools within our state seems to have been diminished over the past few years. I believe Coach Jones understands that and will work very hard to correct the problem. If we can sign the lions share of the top 10 or 15 players in TN it would provide us a nice core of talent that could be then fleshed out on a national recruiting level.
"What did he do? All he did was score!" - John Ward
I for one will not. I couldn't care less about "SEC pride." I hope that our rivals lose every game they play in. I don't like ND by any means, but I hope they beat the dog out of Bama.
there is just no way i can pull for n d it's a tie for me when it comes to teams i can not stand. if i had my way candy and n d would lose every game by 70 points.
i would love for nd to lead the game until about 10 seconds to go and think they have it won and then bama snatch it away.
GO BIG ORANGE!!!
GO BIG ORANGE!!!
Rule #1 for a VFL......never root for your rivals unless they are playing each other then root for a tie unless there is a clear difference in the competition for recruits (i.e. UGA vs Miss St......root for Miss St)
If you do not follow this rule......you like how things have gone for UT the last 4+ years and how our competition is winning more and more and beating us in recruiting too.
I will never understand why anyone is an SEC homer. Ever since i was a little kid watching Tennessee football for the first time Ive hated Alabama and never cheered for my rivals. Tennessee gets nothing from an Alabama win in the national title. Why people have "conference pride" is beyond me. I hope Notre Dame beats the crap out of Alabama.
"Give him six" "We don't give a damn about the whole state of Alabama" "Grit N Grind"
I'd rather be a bad team in a dominant conference than a bad team in an overrated one.
We recruit head to head with ND as much as Bama it seems- I hate to say it, I would rather a SEC team win to keep streak alive.
"Count it down with me. Five, four, three, two, one.
The national champion is clad in Big Orange!"
Look at it this way:
Notre Dame Wins. America loses.
Alabama Wins. Everybody loses.
I'm hoping Alabama wins and then 5 years from now their checkered past comes back to bite them again and they have to vacate the title so neither of them wins
Due to my current residence, I will be pulling for Bama. Living in Mass, all I hear is ND this and ND that. I hope Bama beats ND so bad that ND will be banned from ever playing in a bowl game again. I can't stand ND. They are treated differently than all the rest. They get special treatment, always have and always will. How does a guy win a Heisman on a team that went 2-8? Might want to ask Johnny Majors who he's pulling for. Talk about conflict.
How many recruits annually does UT compete with Alabama for? How many recruits annually does UT compete with Notre Dame for? I can't bring myself to cheer for either team but hopefully Jimmy Haslam becomes greatest UT Booster of all time and hires Saban to the Browns and Notre Dame returns to the modern mediocrity they have enjoyed the past two decades
Gotta root against Bama. Can you imagine how insufferable their fans will be if they win another NC? I hope Bama gets embarrassed.
