Someone please explain why James Franklin is not at the top of this list? What he has done at Vandy is nothing short of miraculous. He does much more with less talent. He is clearly a players coach. His players play hard for him and he's obviously a good recruiter. There's no way he's at Vandy for long.
I'm not against Franklni either. He'snot at the top of my list, but I wouldn't be pissed if he got the job, I'd be furious if we offered him the job and he said no, not sure anybody at UT could live that down.

Look at the records of the teams he has won against. I'm not against him totally but that probably the reason
Two reasons I think: 1.) shorter track record than others on the list and 2.) what drizzle alluded to: pride. Bad enough raiding Vandy which is mostly a coaching graveyard. But if he turned us down? Yikes!
IMO it's because he would more than likely turn down the job and then make it as public as possible to use it as a recruiting advantage! He's done well there in 2 seasons, but no REAL wins...
Elon, Connecticut, Army, Presbyterian, Wake Forest (x2), Massachusetts, Kentucky (x2), Ole Miss (x2), Auburn, Tennessee, Mizzou.
Granted that's great and all, but he really hasn't shown he can out coach anyone or beat solid opponents. He also has a pretty smart and knowledgeable quarterback and good running back, which help a ton. Not worthy of the TN job IMO.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
anybody but him. I think I would give up Tn Football if he got the job. I would rather have Petrino, and I think he would be a disgrace to the University. Winning cannot be everthing. We have a little pride left I hope.
I readily agree that Franklin has generated a lot of enthusiasm and excitement in Vandy Land. However, I don't see any way that Hart would approach him for the reasons already stated in this thread. If for some reason we fall that far down the list, it would be time to bring back the Fulmer/Chavis combo. No way Hart takes a chance on getting turned down by Vandy's coach.
"Old School"! A strong defense wins championships!
What Franklin has done in 2 seasons at program like VANDY shows serious coaching potential. Vandy won a total of 4 games in 09 and 10.
Why would he choose to stay at Vandy if UT offered? The two programs are clearly not equal. This would clearly be a step up for him as a coach. It's not a matter a pride, it would be the best decision for any coach in that situation.
As far as the other candidates:
Fisher: underachiever. why can't he dominate the ACC with a program like FSU? would most certainly still be a step up from Dooley.
Strong: good candidate. would be my 2nd choice. done a nice job at UL. good recruiter and knows the SEC. I still say Franklin has done more at Vandy and has a higher ceiling.
Fedora: good candidate. would be my 3rd choice. improved S. Miss, strong D and I love his Oregon style offense. Nice job in 1st yr at UNC.
