graduated instate-13 ...freshaman-10 instate..sopomore-13 instate.. junior-10-instate..senior -5 instate
6 year-2-instate ..butch jones roster and instate players..so the man can get instate kids..wheather 4-5 stars unknown...over all he had 6 redshirted or medical redshirt 6 year players.
55 instate kids ..24 juniors..29 freshman.6 redshirted or medical .
if jones can recruite tennessee like he did ohio..we no dought would own our state..must for our instate
all the top talent..would be huge for us..time will tell...winning first before we win our state ..thats got to happen formost...go team jones
IMO, If we had that many instate kids, we would not be competitive. Tennessee doesn't have that many top-flight players.
i agree ..guess i was trying to make a point just the top prospects..maybe 4-6 players..be nice to land the top 4 players this year..but i agree this is the sec..winning our state recruiting battle.
just the top 5-6 players only..thats my point
I think the positive is that it shows his ability to establish connectinos with instate schools.
In addition to ATL's points, the thing to remember about Ohio is that the top talent is going to Ohio or Michigan, so it wasn't like he was pulling the top in-state talent there.
They making building in-state relationships a priortity, including relationships outside of football. I saw a tweet yesterday from one the coaches mentioning a local restaurant as one of the best in the country.
Sure but to a point. OSU and Mich. can't sign them all. You know what I'm sayin'? My New Year" resolution is to NOT say that again!
Anyway, that's what I think about FL and GA with all the 4 and 5 * recruits, can't sign them all, so some of them are gonna come our way........with a few wins.
I was looking at it from a different angle. I hope he still pulls some of those underrated Ohio kids that Ohio State and others don't want. Cincy had 4 guys drafted in the top 4 rounds of the draft this year and none of them were highly rated kids. 3 stars and one 2 star i believe. 3 of the kids from Ohio.
All signed by Kelly, but hopefully Butch has a few of those too.
Just wondering what everyone think,, when we talk about recruiting in-state talent, how much of an up-tick in evaluation/on-field performance can you assign to in-state home-grown HS players, ?
Do you you all think that maybe high -school Tennessee football recruits might just play just a little bit harder, or study film just a little bit longer, or give a little more effort overall because they are just that much more aware of what the program & university means to Dads, Moms, other relatives & friends?
When I think of some of the greatest Vols of all-time who never really went on to successful NFL careers but were outstanding on the collegiate level, it always seems to me that they are from East or Middle Tennessee, and left it all out on the field every Saturday?
I love to get the local guys who already know the General's maxims, live and breathe Rocky Top, and are all-in & more than ready to
"GIVE THEIR ALL FOR TENNESSEE TODAY"!
spot on...ive been pulling for tenn since i was old enough to know what football was 7-8 years old
here and still this day we breath..eat..its all about tenn..watched jason and his brother at elizabethton
we knowed if tenn missed jason..they wasnt recruiting tenn kids like they should be.
i might be off here by saying this.even in fulmers day here it seems like we didnt recruite tenn like we
should have..agree fulmer got the top players he wanted.and thats why i think its hard for us to recruite
our kids..like cobb looked at the stadium every day and went to kentucky and played.
always thought when they fired randy sanders that just baught fulmer another year and i guess hes still at kentucky .ive lost track of him now...but if we just took the top 6 or 7 kids instate would be huge.
so i agree take jrm coming in playing for tenn ..we need tenn kids like him he is vfl ..hes going to give it all 100% everyday every week every game..austin sanders another..watch these incoming tenn kids
shine under butch...go tenn
Jones should be focused on bringing in the top-tier talent from Memphis, Nashville, and Chattanooga. Memphis by far produces the most elite talent in our state. We can't continue to let Alabama, Ole Miss, MSU, Auburn, and Arkansas come into our backyard and out-recruit us.
i agree ive always liked ohio kids seen tough as nails..thats a plus for us recruiting up there having jones and some of his staff..i know its going to take 2 recruiting class for butch to get the right players he needs..and he understands we got to play light's out defense and have speed.
mark these words down from now till we meet florida..if i had 1 question from butch ''what kind of talent we got right now compared to the talent hes use to coaching up and competing with..what could he have done this past season with what talent we had in place..to many people are saying with what talent and stuff we have the sky is the limit with jones and these kids..for that its got very excited
for next year...but i know hes walked into a cheek and dooley mess..its going to take butch 2-3 years get the wheels turning..but we have to buckle up and ride this hire out...hes good coach and will coach up what hes got and still do better then dooley...go vos
I don't know the answer to your questions but I would really like for us to sign the top 6 - 10 from Tennessee every year depending on our positional needs.Even lower rated kids like a Reviz or Bartholomew make the best leaders by the time they are Seniors. They have to work harder to earn thier time over more talented kids and usually by the time they are upperclassmen they have won the respect of thier teamates and coaches as well. GO VOLS!
IMO Coach can win here right away. If we would have had a decent defense this year we could have gone 8-4??? Maybe? He will have these guys ready, I think he's a great motivator, win a few games and watch our recruiting improve every year.
As far as his success recruiting in Ohio, among other place, of course, I lived in Dayton, OH for 25 years and I would venture to say there is more Tennessee clothing (shirts, coats, sweatshirts, etc) sold at JC Penney in Dayton than at the JCP at West Town Mall. Outside of OSU there are many, many UT fans in Ohio.
