Marlin Lane is the best RB. At least tonight he was.
he actually ran the ball UP THE FIELD and between the tackles. Neal was bouncing everything outside.
I think this may actually end up being a really good thing. I still think Neal is the most talented back and will have better games going forward. If Lane can also produce, we may have 2 guys that are pretty solid.
I was there and Neal never seemed to have a hole. Once Lane got in there,, our line was opening some holes, which, to me, reflects that NC State was getting tired.
Stats don't tell the whole story.
We'll find out next week because I gotta feelin Lane will be starting thanks to Neal "tiring out" the NCSU D line.
I just reviewed the game on DVR. A lot of Neal's play calls were DEFINITELY outside the tackle as well. I would assume that Chaney was trying to take advantage of Neal's speed, but I believe you first have to assert between the tackles before you can exploit outside the tackles.
Just more proof to me that Chaney is in a bit over his head.
Difficult to say "Chaney is in over his head" when the two TD passes in the first half were great play calls that left receivers wide open.
That said, Neal ran east and west too much last night. It doesn't matter if the play call was off tackle, you still have to turn up field.
I completely agree with you on this . Granted some of the play calling had Rajon running the edges - but several plays were inside the tackle runs had kept trying to go outside - losing time and leverage. I saw CDD with some frustration over this. Marlin showed trust in what he was coached and he gained some valuable experience from his opportunities. Will be interesting to watch Rajon and his leanings from this game.
Not only did Lane cut it up field but he took it in there physical and was always falling forward. Would like to see him start.
Doesn't matter who is back there, if the OL doesn't open up some holes.
