Could losing Jay Graham compare to Fulmer losing Rodney Garner?

  • Just food for thought... It seems like CBJ is adamant about having "his people" on board and believes in his system so much that he is willing to sacrifice any connections to the SEC. I really do hope that his methodology will work in the SEC. His PR work is certainly gaining positive attention and let's hope it pays dividends, but there are reasons that Martinez wasn't offered SEC caliber jobs when GA released him... There is no doubt that PF regrets losing Rodney Garner and Garner is continuing to prove his recruiting abilities in his short time at aubie. I really want us to have a coaching regime that has some continuity and will bring our program back to where it belongs. I hope this guy knows what he's doing...

  • You never know. It could, but at this point in time it doesn't compare. Garner brought in a lot of top talent that was vital to the run in the 90's. Graham has brought in North, but really nothing else at this point.

Over time, Graham could become a big time recruiter like Garner, but we don't know the answer to that yet. Garner can still recruit with the best of them, so I would take him from a recruiting standpoint in a second.

  • Rodney Garner was in another league as far as recruiting. So I say no.

  • I agree with you Wautaga. Rodney Garner is one of Top 5 recruiters in the country and Coach Jones hasn't even coached a spring practice yet so we don't know how important Jay Graham would have been to the coaching staff

Well, this story says Graham recruited three of the five four stars Tennessee landed in this class. Is that true, Ryan?

I agree 100%. Not close. Good luck Jay. We'll be fine.

Not necessarily disagreeing about Martinez and recruiting but he went to Oklahoma and then Auburn as an assistant so I wouldn't say he wasn't offered SEC caliber jobs.

Yep, I was wrong. Looks like he was the lead recruiter for Reeves-Maybin and North, but not sure on the third unless it was Jenkins.

There wasn't a third. Just those two.
