Could we try and show some sense of empathy?

  • So many posters claim to be fervent Christians and southern gentlemen. How about we try and act like we talk, huh? Imagine the situation for the Dooleys. I agree it's time for him to go elsewhere, but to come on here one day claiming to be so damn righteous and to come on the next and act as if waiting until 2:00 p.m. EST is far too long to announce what we already know is coming is hypocritical at best. I can't say what it is at worst because I would get censored and banned.

Yes, he will have a buy-out that is more money than most of us will ever see in our lifetimes, but that's not a reason to run out with fire and pitchforks. I am certainly not one to come into any conversation and interject myself as some holier than thou, right-wing Jezus lovin, 'merican secessionist!, like so many others I see on here day in and day out. But I am aware of enough to know the biblical Jesus didn't create any exceptions or caveats loving one another.

WE ALREADY KNOW IT'S COMING. Dooley will be fired today.

Sit tight, shut up and try to imagine what this is like for others. Yeah, then suddenly waiting 4 hours for an announcement isn't so bad is it?

  • This is a very gutsy post, considering the mood of the board and the Big Orange faithful. +1 friend because I agree with you.

  • The guy doesn't deserve to be scorned or hated but he also is about 358,982,013th on the list of people who you should be giving sympathy in this country on this fine Sunday morning. I get it, he tried and he failed and it impacts he and his family, but come on......that's the job. Do we feel sympathy for the CEOs who run companies into the ground then bail out with a golden parachute? Because that's what is basically happening here.

Head coach at UT is a high paying executive position, and one with standards. He mismanaged our "company" and thus was terminated, with a lucrative payment for walking away. It's just business. Aside from performing his job poorly and getting the resulting ax nothing bad has happened to him. He wasn't mistreated. He wasn't set up to fail. He just did, and this is what happens when you do.

  • I've met some NFL and college coaches over the years and some of their families. They hear the talk. Even if they don't read the filler on message boards, someone will tell them. It's terrible. I hate it for them.

It's part of the job, unfortunately. I wish it wasn't. It doesn't need to be.

Big difference between the words sympathy and empathy. I choose the word I did for a reason . . . .

And everything you said was assumed and addressed in my post. None of it excuses the crap being spewed on here, in my opinion.

    VolForce1202823

  • The problem with this is, this is a message board, and not everyone here believes the same way you do, and what you say is fair and good, it's never gonna happen where everyone takes people's families and feelings into consideration before posting their feelings, it's just not. While I agree with the OP, all others are entitled to post what they want until Wes,Ryan,or Kevin say otherwise. +1 to the OP because I do agree with him.

Thanks. I don't like in some e-utopia and am aware this will never happen. I am just trying to implore some civility is all. If there is one less garbage post, I'll count it as a success.

  • Well of course it is a personal disaster for Dooley and his family, and no one should even think about being rude to them. We don't have much dignity left and should make every effort to hold on to what there is.

But I'm not in the mood to listen to preaching.

I understand what empathy is and I understand that if I were in his shoes I would probably think it wasn't all my fault and look back on the things I could have done differently and feel crushed. But the analogy still holds true. He is a wealthy professional who did a poor job getting a large severance package so we can hire someone else to clean up his mess. That's just reality. His situation is a million times better than the vast majority of the public who are actually struggling, so posts like this make me angry because there are plenty of people out here who really do deserve both our sympathy and our empathy and Derek Dooley isn't one of them.

He's a rich kid who, because of his daddy's name, got a job he was never qualified for and both he and his employer are getting exactly what they deserve.

    JPSke

  • We have to remember also he is a Father to kids and he has a wife... The guy gave it all he had and I respect him for it and we should all be very respectful in the mean time

Well, then feel free to post as much hatred and vitriol as you can. We can just agree to disagree.

    VolForce1202823

  • Fulmer getting fired was sad. That was a man who everyone could be empathetic towards. This is just the logical conclusion to a series of bad decisions. Everyone has a family, get out of here with any pretension that Dooley is a victim here.

How is it hatred or vitriol? I just don't want to be preached to about the myriad of miseries visited upon poor young Derek and his family. I just graduated from college in this economy, I have friends who are really in bad situations. Having a pity party for this guy is completely ludicrous.

You do realize I wasn't responding to anyone's specific posts when I posted my thoughts, right? It's really not all about you.

I've never understood this sentiment. Dooley is not reading this board. You're entitled to your opinion though.

I'm responding to a post you made that quotes me directly. How could I have been so stupid as to infer I was the one you were referencing?

Whatever dude, if you want to feel forlorn because a millionaire has to find another high paying job and move his kids due to his own incompetence I guess that's your prerogative.

Seriously? I am clearly referencing my original post. Meaning, my original post wasn't directed at anyone in particular. But yes, it's abundantly obvious my further posts quoting you were directed at you.

Can we just agree to disagree, or do you just have to get in the last word? Here, tell you what. Post something else if you need. I promise I will not reply, then you can have the last word. Maybe that means you win?!? Not sure, but it doesn't change my opinion, just like I have never changed yours.
