DAVE HART DID NOT HIRE DEREK DOOLEY

  • If you think he is going to let Dooley drag him down then you are either delusional or not being honest with yourself.

This weeks crowd could be the most important factor in Dooley's future if it is more Bama than Vol fans Dooley will be gone for sure.

Some of you think Hart has something invested in Dooley, but he doesn't and he can cut him loose with no consequences.

...except for buying out his and possibly other staff member's contracts. But other than that, i guess no consequences.

  • 2 Good points. Not just the crowd this weekend though, because we will fill the stadium, we just gotta hope there's not 30K Bammers. But the final 3 home games against inferior teams, what will the crowd be like then, that's also really important.

Other than the substantial buyout and starting the climb from the bottom of the stairs again.

Hamilton gave Dooley the buyout, it sure wasn't Hart.

Oh, I understand that. But Hart will be the one to write the checks for it. So it's not entirely accurate to say no consequences. Just no reflection on him for the hire(or no credit. Can't help it, I'm an optimist)

  • I agree with hdrizzle and OrangeNCarolina.
And yes, that is a fact. Dave Hart did not hire Derek Dooley. Can't argue that one. deadhorse
But also, Dave Hart is not stupid, and will do what is best for this program.

I can think of 8 million consequences right off the bat - five million to Dooley and 3 million to the staff. And with buyouts of other coaches still being paid out, there's no way Hart could afford to pay $5 million a year to a new coach plus buyouts and expect to keep the athletic program out of the red.

Are we not at the bottom now? Sure dies seem like it. This mindset that "change" is going to set us back is the strangest thing I've heard.

40-50,000 empties for the Troy game. There were at least 30,000 empties at the Akron game when we were 2-1. I don't see a surge in attendance in November.

It will cost UT anywhere from $8-10 million just to get rid of this staff and hire consultants and get a new staff hired.

UT has dumped MILLIONS into facilities and buyouts the past few years.

    I'm just sayin...

And let's not forget, UT has another situation that will probably add a few $$$ to the tab. The Jennings lawsuit will be as expensive as it will be ugly.

UT "changed" 7 coaches in the off season. Defensively, that set us back. Disagree? And no, I absolutely do not think we're at the bottom now. When a building is being built, those driving by see a lot of work going on for weeks and even months and wonder why they're not seeing the building going up. Then one day they drive by and notice that finally there's some structure starting to develop. And they say to themselves "Those guys have been working for months and we're just now seeing part of the building being erected?" They didn't stop their cars, get out, and walk over to the site. If they had, they would have seen the enormous amount of labor and preparation being put into the foundation, which, if not properly laid, will not support the building for any length of time. Folks, I believe that building will take shape by year 4. The blueprint changes made on D slowed the progress down some, but the engineers knew that longterm, it was the right call. I know that nowadays contracts ain't worth the paper they were printed on, but there's a reason that Dooley signed a 5 year contract. There were a lot of grading, soil preparation, foundation firming up and securing the right subcontractors to be done in order to complete the job. We'll see a finished product within the next year. And it'll be a building you can be proud of. GO VOLS!

To make your analogy fit this situation the people driving by the site keep driving by for the next 2 years without the building ever being completed. The framework is all there but the building never gets completed because the contractor was not qualified to build such a big building in the first place and the owner must now come in and replace him to get the job completed.

ya know something its monday and everyone still on firing dooley when this happens and next year this time we will have lost a good recruiting class and hard to tell what shape we will be headed for wins now that not even saban could do if he was here.any body tenn hires will only throw us 2 to 3 years or worser behind.why cant all of you understand that part.dooley done a good job hes got alot on his plate and the more he does more tenn fans want to can the man, tenn football fan wants wins now at all cost which will be short lived and never make it off the ground.keep dooley be patient and we will be fine. we have made 50 percent progress from last year to this year .all you people calling for dooley job i hope i can be able to say you was told so.this job of dooleys was 5 year job and by hell tenn should give the man 5 years.at the flipp of switch we could win the east next year or next.focus on bama and feeling a empty seat to keep a bama fan from getting.and let every thing play out..go vols and behind dooley 100 percent

Please quantify your 50% progress assertion? I know I can quantify my reasons for thinking Dooley is not the answer, but I know for a fact you can't quantify your reasons for thinking he is anything but what his record says he is.

Your points are valid. But if Dooley was given a 5 year contract to get the building built and it took 3 years to get the foundation laid, with some blueprint changes, how do we know he can't complete the job within the time constraints of his contract? There was an awful lot of soil contamination he had to dispose of during the process.

Dooley may not be Hart's guy but there is not way UT can afford to get rid of Dooley and his staff. Dooley and company (with the exception of Chaney) will be back in 2013 and probably 2014. The school has to lose some excess financial baggage before they take on an additional load of buyouts.

I'm not happy with how things have went but they are going as most projected. 7-5 at best. twocents
