Constant negativity in a journalist whether commentator or beat writer is intellectual laziness. They don't have to be cheerleaders but they do need to have an imagination at least as big as their ego's. I can name on one hand the sports journalists I respect. JMO

There is a lot of truth in that. Some longtime sports columnists seem to struggle to remember the fascination and fun of the games that drew them to the profession in the first place. The best columnists find fun, positive stories that break up what would otherwise be an endless string of negativity.
Jim Murray was the personiification of this. Even in his 70s he could write about young athletes in an admiring way that made you feel like he was living their exploits himself.

Do any of you know anything about david climer of the Tennessean? I was just lookin around their website and it seems like he's extremely anti-UT and just really, really down on the program. Has he always been this way? I know he's in nashville, but it's not like Vandy has a huge fanbase he's trying to appease.
Really just curious if he's always been this way and how he is as a reporter.
