Defense! Defense! Defense!

  • I'm not hearing much talk on the Defensive side of the ball lately? Maybe I'm not reading enough lol
    Looking back through my Crystal Ball I have observed Championship after Championship has been won on teams who have BRUTAL Defenses? IMO seems like Tennessee with the offensive power they have had over the past few years were scoring enough points but, they were giving up too many points on defense? I see alot of Offensive players being recruited as well should be but, I'm not understanding why the Vols aren't putting alot of emphasis on recruiting Big Time Defensive Prospects? IMO with this New Coaches offensive scheme that is being introduced this year,There's going to be a Learning process Involved with the players? Understandable!!
    So, With that said,Wouldn't we think that the defensive side of the ball would need some serious recruitment to keep the Vols competitive enough to just stay in a game for four Quartars of a ball game? The defense requires alot of personnel no doubt but, I just. Don't seem to be hearing alot of uproar about it? Can someone set me straight on what's going on with recruitment on this side of the ball?

  • We are trying. LB recruiting has sucked. Missed evaluations in the secondary, and the D-line was most recently recruited to play a 3-4...

    We need a pass rush DE. We are trying with Bellamy and Lawson
    4-3 DT's: We are screwed after 2013 and we aren't doing much this year, need to hold onto Carr and bulk him up
    MLB is okay
    OLB is poor. Trying with Grace, Cunningham, the Rutgers decommit, Foster and we have Vereen committed.
    CB: Signed a ton, let's hope some pan out, none are very highly rated
    S: We are okay here. Vonn Bell would be huge, and would help at CB/Nickel next year...

  • Yeah, we're trying. I am intrigued by Vereen. Not sure if he'll be OLB, MLB, or DE.. but with offers from Florida, Florida State, Tennesee, and Clemson.. he's obviously talented. Our problems could be solved if sign some of the guys mentioned above but it'll be tough. Hopefully we'll put an encouraging product on the field next year to give recruiting a boost.

    Well let me ask this question if I may? What is the current process of defensive recruitment? I'm confused when kids are out here in these combines and it's mostly offensive competition without pads? Even in the college combines its usually the same? What I never understood about recruitment is how they determine who is and who's not? IMO I would like to see kids PAD UP in this combines because that way when these little speedy guys get ALL Hyped up by the Media Services by how Great they are at two hand touch football.......I would like to see how Great that player is when a 230lb Linebacker lays the BOOM on!! To Me, that's where you would find out beyond a reasonable doubt .....Who Is and Who isn't? If you evaluate a Player by what you hear in the Paper or on a TV news 10sec video clip seems to me it would be impossible to truly get a prospective on what a prospect is capable of? Going to High School games I notice teams more and more run their offensives away from the best defensive players and I'm sure for good reason!! Lol but it seems to me the defensive player gets lost in the recruitment process because of how much if not ALL the attention goes to the Offensive Players? Can somebody help me on this because I'm sure I have missed something about All of this process and how they evaluate?
