Derrick Henry biggest UT miss?

  • He will go down as one of the biggest misses in UT history if he commits to Alabama like most of us think. This kid is an absolute stud. He ran for over 500 years and 6 tds last night. I know its high school but he is the missing link to us really being back I think. Your thoughts.

    I don't think him committing to Alabama is a miss on our part as he's publicly stated that he's been leaning their way for while. Rather, if he did end up committing to TN then I'd say it would be one of the best surprises in quite some time.

    I think it's pretty remarkable that we got in the picture for him as our running game has not been relevant for the past few years. I agree that he would help us get there sooner rather than later.

  • You just can't expect a stud RB to pick us over Alabama. Would you? Saban pounds the rock and puts guys in the NFL. Easy decision, just have to move on to the next one.

  • It will just add to the frustration after last year. It seemed every big time back last year had us in their top 2 or 3 and we got none. I am tired of playing second fiddle to everyone else for the big time backs. I am glad we have CJG on board to help bring in the talent. I expect us to get at least 1 big time back this year.

    Bama simply offers more to prospective running backs than we can at this time. That said, I think we need some in-state guys to commit and blow-up at UT so we can have a running game that draws in talent from across the country.

    For UT to even being in the picture with this kid is a win. Bama is Bama, and as bad as I hate it, they honestly get to choose who they want to play for them. We are not currently the Tennessee that we all grew up to know and love. To me, for Henry to have UT as a finalist tells me that he (and many other recruits) realize that Tennessee is on the verge of something special. I think he commits to Bama Thursday, but do not count the Vols out until signing day. Wins over two of the next four games (after Akron) could really make some recruits look twice at the Vols. The upcoming stretch of games may be as big as we have had in awhile. Just my opinion.

    True.........and we have not lost Henry yet to Bama.

    Some still say we are very very close to getting him.........I am not so sure but we will see.

    It still baffles me that FL turned him down.

  • Henry is goin to be a Vol. For a kid who wants to play early and be a feature back, why he even considers a school with 7 4* RBs on roster is beyond me. Hed be at best the 3rd team, most likely 4th team rb as a Fr at Bama...could very well walk on UTs campus and start next week @UGA

    IIRC he was not highly recruited..............lets not blame Fulmer at all...........Bama, FL, UGA etc passed.........he just happened to be instate and then blew up once in college like some do once they can eat and train 24/7/365

    The only Division I offers Willis had was Ole Miss, University of Memphis, and MTSU. Played at very small class A school and most dismissed his dominance for lack of HS competition.

  • By miss I meant it came down to us and Bama. I don't expect him to choose us and never did the fact that we were in it till the end speaks volumes. Not sure a down vote was necessary for my original post. But everybody so jumpy now days, some people think if you say something that isn't all vol its a negative.this was simply meant as a conversation starter for other guys we almost got. Game changers like RGiii another almost get for UT.
