  • Wonder if Sal is worried now knowing how much trouble we have recruiting

    MattShell

  • It's a top 20 class... It comes down to coaching... Tennessee had 3 straight top 15 classes before... Did those rankings bring in wins? It's all about getting the right players to fit in the coaches system...

  • What? This class is still a very good class. We lost 6 coaches in the last few months of recruiting, got a lot of depth at WR, solid QB, solid RB, DB's are very good, and DL help that was much needed. Why would you think this on a great day for the Vols!

This team was 5-7 last year without a bowl and a 28 game winstreak stopped at KY. We lost two LB's not the end of the world.

Solid top 15 class. Sal has to be excited with the new players on his side of the ball and we still have room for some late additions even if the hoopla is over for us today.

agreed Rankings are only important pre-season, in my uneducated opinion. If these boys want it, they'll do what they gotta do. I'll put my faith in their dedication, hard work, and thirst for success as a team, not in a class ranking.

Any of the top 10 recruiting classes right now might me filled with Bryce Browns and Nu'keese Richardsons and Janzen Jacksons...We'll see who gets their 3-4 years of eligibility in, who bolts and who spends their scholarship on the Disabled List.

  • I said it in another thread, and i'll say it here. I'm not a fan at all of recruiting rankings much like i'm not a fan of preseason polls. If recruiting rankings equated to National Championships then Alabama and texas would have won for like the past 5 years, Oregon wouldn't be anywhere in the conversation, and Stanford would be left to their own devices creating Google 2.0. Bottom line is this is a good class. This is one part of what coaches have to do, now it's time for them to do their real job: coach these kids up and get them ready.

  • Sunseri isn't worried at all. He has ties to all the states that we need to pull from, and he came late to the game. Santos wasn't his fault, and who knows what the heck Peters was thinking, but it's not SS fault. He will get the most out of what he has.

I predict a killer class for next year. SS will have a full year to recruit LB's and Jay Graham should bring home so great offensive players. I think DD will do enough this year to stay around, and then things should start falling in place as far as depth and stability. I think JG and SS will be here for the long haul...DD just needs to get through next season.

  • Let's not forget that Tennessee already has 4 2013 commitments. Besides striking out on peters and Santos, I couldn't be happier with the talent Tennessee has coming in. I hope the line backer situation is addressed with the 2013 class or there will be trouble on down the road. Today I'm happy... It's a damn good day to be a vol fan. Enjoy it. Embrace it... Drink till you turn orange. Go vols... Go America... And the cubs still suck...

  • In regards to rankings, let's not forget Notre Dame...they should have been in a BCS bowl every year for the past decade if recruiting really meant so much. It's important, but I heard recently that some crazy high number of pro bowl players were rated two or three stars during the recruiting process. What they do after they get here is much more important.

    SweetBlackMagic

  • Star ratings measure potential, not actual on- field performance. If the player does not put in the work necessary to succeed, they will wind up a benchwarmer or transferring to some FCS or D-II school. If star ratings told the full story, then Texas would be winning the Big 12 easily every single year. But they're currently a middle of the pack team in that conference.

  • What about Baylor:
    2011: #46 Recruiting Class
    2010: #39 Recruiting Class
2009: Not even in the top 50

And yet how did they do last year???? Recruiting isn't everything.

  • One thing to remember:
Let's say we win 10 games...
Bray, Rodgers, Hunter and Patterson have insane years.
They leave for the draft...all 4.

The source of those 10 win is gone.

We're back on rebuilding mode somewhat because the talent gap is huge.

    Just a thought...

GO VOLS! GO HEAT! GO PHINS! GO BRAVES! And for those who know soccer: GO BRAZIL! GO GRÊMIO!

  • You have to be disappointed don't you? Here is why...

4 days ago we had Peters and Santos committed and there was serious talk we led for Kirven, Davis, Patterson, and Leggett....

4 Days go by and you lose Santos (which was expected) lose Peters who after losing Santos was so huge. And we go 1 for 4 when it seemed at worse we were going 2 for 4. Just not a good day.

I still think Bray would need one more killer season to be a legit high first rounder. He needs to prove he can stay healthy and read defenses, and the likelihood of all three WR's leaving is minute. I don't see them being able to get all of them enough touches to be swayed to the NFL.

Bray is replaced by Worley (Not a gigantic drop off)
I don't think its possible we lose Rogers, Hunter, and Patterson, However if we do you have Croom, Howard, and Bowles who are being groomed this year to step up. Vincent Dallas also showed potential last year.

  • You'll never please everyone! I'm happy about who we got. Tennessee recruits for their system not who has the biggest stars... some people on these recruiting sites get starry eyes and thats all they think about. Lets be thankful for what we got. I think we have a solid class! Boise beat Georgia last year right? Did Boise have a better recruiting class than Georgia? So, everyone needs to think about this.We have solid players already in the system. We are getting even more solid players today. We have made improvements on our coaching staff! I love these kids and I can't wait till spring practice! VFL rant

  • I think we have to be thrilled with what we have considering we lost six coaches and went 5-7. To even sniff the Top 20 after that is reflection of how hard the staff has worked. Plus, if we win 8 - 10 this year people can't play the "DD is out" card anymore, which I'm sure cost us 2 - 3 great recruits this year.

    SweetBlackMagic

  • I think we take the rankings too seriously as long as you sign quality top 25 classes you can always. Coach em up recruitings rankings just give fans more to cheer about nobody knows how these kids will do at next level you can't be worried bout where it ranks no one is getting a trophy for this

A lot of people talked like that about the 98 team after Peyton left. They didn't fair too bad. Too hard to predict that stuff right now.
