Don't know about Dooley, but

  • I'm pretty sure Sunseri needs to go. Unfortunately. Because I like him and he brings a lot of energy.

Buy our D is not getting any better, and may be getting worse as the season goes on.

    GoBigO

  • He should be at the very least be
demoted tomorrow morning, if not fired.

    UT judge

  • I'm shocked he is coaching rhe 2nd half. Seriously. He's GOT TO GO! Absolutely no excuse for what we are watching today.

    volinfranklin

  • Worst UT defense I've ever seen. Sunseri has to go. If not, Dooley and Sunseri will both be gone.

  • Very lucky if we pull this off. There has to be a change at d-coordinator this is pitiful. We just barely got a win and scored 55pts on Troy?

    dirtyred

  • We all knew there would be a drop in defense tgis year, but damn-near bottom of the barrel is unacceptable.

    NavyMike

  • In any other profession Sunseri would be asked to meet his supervisor in the lobby of the downtown Hilton on Monday at 10 AM....and remember, to please bring your company laptop.

This defensive performance is now beyond comprehension. Maryville's offensive staff could put up 40 on us. Very, very sad.

  • I don't know terribly much about football...I just REALLY enjoy watching it and get the general gist of how it works. So I have a legitimate question: Is the fact that the defense is an insult to swiss cheese a lot of the time completely Dooley's fault? Or does it fall on his DC?

If you are going to pound on a Coach for the poor performance, shouldn't we be going straight at the position coaches? I mean the DB's are the real heart of the problems so why not look at Ansley & Conklin? It may not be the overall scheme that is the problem . just the DB's.

You can't blame the defensive backs for the total inability to stop the wrap around draw, time after time. They rushed for nearly 300 yards, too.

But you can blame them for repeatedly not being within 3-5 yards of the man they are supposed to cover, CB's pulling off of coverage when they have no Safety help, getting outrun repeatedly, poor tackling, need I go on? And, by the way, it is a lot easier to see the drawing coming from an aerial view either watching at the game or on TV.

  • A fair point to a point, volfanrfb, yet Sunseri continues time and time again to make some of the most inexplicable play calls on defense that I have ever seen, thus putting our guys at a further disadvantage. Reference the 3rd and 26 last week in Colimbia and we go single safety deep? Hold the 'Cocks to anything 25 yards or less and they are forced to kick a FG. Heck no, tight end over the middle for 6 points.

That illustration is just one of a myriad of others, however, reflect for a moment as to what the score could have been with the difference between a TD/XP there versus a FG. Victory for the Vols could have been the result.

As passionate UT fans we wll recognize we have a Sunseri-ous issue on the defensive side of the ball. Do we ever.

Oh, I agree. I'm just saying it was a total defensive failure. The DBs could possibly have done a little better had there been a better pass rush too.

He'll get his own HC position next week and half of Saban's paycheck if Obama gets re-electedcool.

  • I doubt he will accept a demotion. He will take his buyout and leave. If this happens tomorrow or Monday it could be the only thing to be able to save Dooley. The only thing I see. But what does the entire great state of Tennessee and I know anyway right? We're not the coaches. Thank god. That would look bad on us.

So if that were to happen, who becomes DC and do we jump back to a 4-3? It would have to be a pretty basic scheme wouldn't it?

    volfanrbf

  • If Dooley fires Sunseri, the defense will improve. This is addition through subtraction. Sunseri is the worst DC in the history of Tennessee. I think the players would be relieved to find out they no longer have to play for coach Sal. He quite obviously doesn't know how to coordinate an entire defense and should have never been promoted above a postion group coach.

  • Ok, this is probably just a rumor, but the guy that has season tickets next to us (he has been a donor and SP holder for over 30 years) told us today that his good buddy who works for the University told him that Dooley and Sunseri had a falling out, and that Dooley will be gone after the season no matter what happens to Dooley. Has anyone else heard anything along those lines?

Ya clear that up Dooley or Sal will be gone no matter what?

  • Dude! Keep your political jabber to yourself or go spread it on another board.

Not everyone wants to hear your opinions about anything other than the Vols.
