Dooley Did Not Manage Well

  • 1. Terrible 2nd half timeout at own 4.
    2. Terrible Clock Management to end Game.
    3. Terrible Decision to initially go for it on that 4th down in the 4th, we got very lucky.

    Hey we won the game but it was ugly. Bray was rusty as expected. But it was good to see the team show some heart and win a close game. But the mistakes by the coaching staff were tough to ignore. I will finish with Get Teague the hell off the field and put in EG Baby GO VOLS.

    I'm talking about Chaney not Dooley. I'm trying not to complain, but when your running the ball as well as we were why wouldnt you run the ball more in the third quarter?

    I am going to have to agree with one thing...let Eric Gordon play more...maybe not taking Teague off the field, but definitely needs to play more in Gordon. But I also think we need to enjoy this win and not find something to complain about...play calling is play calling...we won so what else matters?

    My question to you is this. Do you think we need a new offensive coordinator?

    Well you cant exactly judge the guy quite yet with a bunch of sophmores and freshmen....I think you give Chaney one, maybe two more years to pound his system into these new guys and then say whether or not he is doing a good job. Just my opinion though. My question to you is....did you think we needed a new OC after the first two games of the season, and what the offense did when everyone was healthy?

    Maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit. But I want an SEC guy that wants to put emphasis on the running game. I feel like he wants to pass the ball no matter what. Take the third quarter tonight. Take when he was purdues offensive coordinater, even when he was offensive coordinater in the pros!

  • I dunno guys. I'm delighted we won, and I think Dooley has had to take risks all season to win (ie going for it tonight on 4th & goal from the 2 after the missed FG - which if made would have left us down 4 pts).

    But I don't think all criticism is an evil. That's what coaches do every week with players in the film room. You've got to learn from your mistakes -- that's how you get better. Dooley's making a small fortune every year as UT's head coach. I wouldn't skin the guy alive for a mediocre year this year, but I don't think it's unreasonable to have reasonably big expectations.

    Chaney maybe simply using what he has. Our passing game was obviously our strong suit this year, and he has 2 young QB's (Bray & Worley) who apparently can't manage the running game well. Also, the QB's (at least Bray) can make checks at the line of scrimmage. It's a little hard to tell what Chaney's calling and what Bray's checking out of/into.

    Remember that we lost many of our SEC games this year against some of the top teams in the nation: LSU #1, Bama #2 (on the road), Ark #8 (on the road), S. Car #15 or so (at the time we played them) -- and we played all those guys without Bray, Hunter and 2 with a true-freshman QB who didn't know the system well (not counting guys we had missing on D: Janzen Jackson, Herman Lathers, Ben Martin (most of the year), Maggitt a game or two, etc). UT was walking wounded this year when playing the SEC's & nation's best.

    How would the SEC's or nation's best coaches do in the same conditions?

    I'm saying this, if he doesn't run the ball tonight then he never will! We were getting 5 yards a pop tonight but he insisted we throw the ball tonight! I'm just saying, if we wanna win we have to run more when we are having success running the ball! Poole should have had 150 yards

  • In hindsight, I don't how you can criticize Dooley for going for it on 4th & Goal on the 4 after seeing Palardy hit a DLineman in the gut on the prior play and then watching him shank the following kickoff.

    He hit that kickoff so bad, I don't think it went 20 yards before it sailed OOB.

    Dooley is not perfect. Dont think u will find a perfect coach. But we will be ok. HAVE A LITTLE FAITH.

    I'm saying when your in the third quarter and the running game is as good as it has been you have to run the ball more! It should have been 45 runs if your getting more than 5 yards a pop!!!

    I'm a big Dooley guy!!! But don't tell the guy to go on to another team just cause he doesnt agree with you. We dont do that on this board. Everyone has an opinion.

    I like to think long-term. This season means very little. I want to know we will be in good hands moving forward. It's just worrisome to see a head coach at Tennessee make really bad decisions game in game out. I am aware the talent on this team sucks, and that isn't his fault. But what he can control is timeouts, clock management, substitutions, and such.I will support Dooley, but it is certainly fair to criticize him when he does a sub-par job.

  • Seems balanced- especially when considering how pass heavy we have been with Bray in the past- I thought Chaney called a great game- just had a few mistakes that were drive killers and the bad decisions by Bray
