Dooley: UT brass still supportive

Derek Dooley was asked after Saturday's loss to Alabama whether Tennessee's administration still supported him. UT's football coach was curt and confident.

  • Dooley isn't actually dumb enough to actually believe that mess.

  • I get the rebuilding excuse, and nobody is going to do very well against this Bama team, but nothing I saw tonight gives me confidence that this team is improving to the point they will be competitive in the SEC for the forseeable future. From a recruiting perspective alone, what quality player would want to play for this coaching staff?

    BoroVFL

  • I really feel for this team! But as far as coaching I donated money to a little league football team in G10 parking lot that had coaches that could manage a football game better than the Vols coaches! 3rd and 1 don't know what to do so time out! Then throw it 10yds out of bounds then try to run it up the middle? Turnover! Really maybe against Akron but the #1 team in the country? What a joke! My buck stops here! Or should I say dollars!!! Until this university decides they want a winning program again!!

There is a very positive post tonight from a prospect's father . . . He wrote his son thoroughly enjoyed the experience and sees potential.

"Old School"! A strong defense wins championships!

  • That is like when the hot girl in school says your sweet. No one expected us to beat Bama tonight but it shows how far behind everyone else we are. Except maybe UK and Auburn.

  • I believe SC is the game that will determine his future here. If the Vols lose that game, I think Dooley is toast. Bad thing is that I really like the man and want him to be successful.
I wasn't at the game, but watching the game on television, I could see that most of the Vol faithful had made way to the exits by the fourth quarter, leaving only Alabama fans in the stands. It appeared that half of the stadium was occupied by Bama fans.

  • Is it me, or is the fact that there is discussion of Bray leaving early for the NFL a collosal joke? I am so tired of reading "prolific QB Tyler Bray.." and "gunslinger QB " etc. he has an arm. He's forgotten how to use it. He can't lead on or off the field. Dont you have to actually pass over 50% to go pro? Maybe a top 25 win? An SEC win?? No idea who would be better, so we gotta keep him in but please everybody quit kissing Bray's a*s.

  • I'm really starting to worry that we may never get back to where we used to be cause of our lack of instate talent.Everytime I see colorado I wonder if that's gonna be us. Not that's the buffs are on our level just I remember when they were good. Thoughts?

I agree the company I work for gave100k last year not again not for a team or coach that cant coach. I'm not sure now if we can win another game this year.

  • Dooley must go, right? But then, we'd be where we were 3 yrs ago, less the Kiffin exodus. But coachless for the 3rd time in 5 years. And who's waiting in line to take over the program? Nobody will be good enough for us, short of a Saban-esque figure. 3 in 5 years, when we desperately need stability for recruiting! Dooley must go. I believe that. But could we possibly be worse off when we fire him?? Thoughts please.

  • NOBODY....and I mean NOBODY is good enough for our fan base unless your name is Gruden, Cower, L. Smith, et al. Sure, let's fire Dooley and set the clock back another couple years. Then, when we're not happy with that coach, we'll fire him also and we'll start the process all over again.

Instantaneous results. That's the world we live in. That's the mentality of sports. That's the mentality of today's UT fan.

  • There is not a team in November that TN "should" lose to, leaving the Vols 7-5. In my opinion, this should be enough to allow another year for Dooley. However, losing to anyone in November (Troy, Missouri, Vandy or Ky), then it is time to pull the trigger. Let him finish the season, but if any whiff of him losing the team again and a loss to an inferior team, he will need to go. That would be an objective sign of lack of progress.

  • If bamboo hasn't sprouted in 3 years, how do you know it's ever going to sprout? Perhaps it's dead and will never produce anything.

Define instantaneous, is it 3 years, 4 years or 5 years in your opinion? How about a simple litmus test of improving with wins and losses?

  • Glad to see I'm not alone. The hiring-firing roundabout will scare away every quality recruit, and the free-fall continues. But ask yourself this... If you are a 4 star recruit, would you even open the envelope from UT? I wouldn't.
