Dooley: UT brass still supportive

  • No he is not that dumb. He has been around FB all his life and he knows the ins and outs of the college game. I do not think he would have said yes with out some confidence in his answer. Discussions by the administration is a much different situation than all the fan discussions especially those than never had the opportunity to visit a University classroom.

  • I'm not as concerned about this recruiting class as I am 2014. 2014 has a lot of UT legends sons. If we keep Dooley one more year he will at best be 7-5 with a class full of Seniors. All the other coaches will push that Dooley is getting fired sometime between now and the end of next season so we probably lose some of this years recruits anyway.
If you wait until next year then you won't get a big name coach because the bulk of the starters will be leaving.

If you look at the big picture, you either keep Dooley for 3 more years or you cut him after the loss next week(assuming you already have a big name lined up). Not really much else you can do. We will lose next week. At South Carolina and they will be amped up about this weeks loss. Our coaches know the problems but don't seem to have the knowledge to scheme around them. That's what good coaching will bring you, scheming around your shortcomings.

  • There are rumors out there that Hart has already made up his mind and the buyout is not an issue. The matter now is just coming up with money for a high salary coach.

We don't want instantaneous results we just some results art some point and 1-11 in the SEC isn't coming close

I'll agree with you that 1-11 in the SEC isn't acceptable by any measure. But this is a tricky situation for everyone involved. Dooley had to make some big changes after the 2011 season, and while several of them have already paid off (Jay Graham and the running game, the OLs continued improvement to name a few), some of them seem to be leaving more questions than answers.

If a coaching change is made after this season, then Hart has no choice but to go after either a top-caliber HC like a Saban or Miles, or an up and coming assistant like Kirby Smart. I know some people have mentioned Petrino as a possibility, but that guy has a track record of screwing over every program he's been at (yes, his antics in Fayetteville screwed over the Arkansas program). The question is what top-caliber coach would even want to take over this program?

  • One thing we need to do is build our schedule like Mississippi State's or Georgia's. We need to buy the Oregon game off or we are asking for failure. I understand you have to beat the best to be the best but duh? We are not the best. We need four games at the first of the season that are Div. II., then we play our division. That is tough enough. There are a lot of teams that only play two ranked opponents every year. Right now that is all we can handle.

I'm assuming you meant FCS rather than D2 there. I don't even think D2 games count towards bowl eligibility, and even the # of FCS games is limited.

The only person I've seen saying this is feelslike98. He's been right some, but he's swung and missed a few times also.

Oh no. That sounds alot like Hamilton. Hart should have learned that if doesn't write the BIG check then Tennessee will continue to have a LITTLE coach, and a TINY future.

I wouldn't give the rumors a lot of credit at this point in time. Besides, Hart knows how to run a major-college AD, so he's not going to go the same route as his predecessor. Regardless of who's coaching the Vols next August, there will be even more pressure to win than there is now, and it's going to take a big check to land the type of coach everyone seems to want.

Perzackly right. This ain't the Hambone Amateur Hour any more. Trust Hart. If he says Dooley's the man, great. If he's not, he'll get someone who is. Either way the long Vol Nation nightmare is going to end sooner than later.

  • How do I say this. Fact: We have a team of 18 to 22 year old young men who came to play at Tennessee because of Coach Derek Dooley.
Fact: They look on he and his staff as a surregate fathers. Fact: We constantly tell them that their father is an incompetent idiot. Question: Why don't they like those words?

Fact: This recruiting class is made up of young men who also love their soon to be surregate fathers. Fact: We keep telling them that Coach Dooley should be fired. Question: Why will they still want to come to play at the University of Tennessee. We are the ones in the stands that shower them with adulation.....or not.

Fact: If we fire Coach Dooley and most of his staff, we will lose Mr. Miles. We will lose Mr. Zanca (already stated by he amd his parents) who will go to the Air Force Academy (Gee, he must make good grades). How many Freshmen and red shirt freshmen will transfer?

Question: Do we love starting over again so much? Has anyone here had a relationship that lasted all the way till dawn? Has anyone on here had teenage kids? Question: Do these recruits and current players read what we write? If you say no you are a fool. They and their parents read this.

I wish to thank each and every one of you for your support of our players and coaches and your patience during our rebuilding from squat.....NOT! And as far as wishing we still had Wilcox? Stop blaming the 34 D. Watch the game and films and see how often we have four, yes count them, four, down defensive linemen. We have no had for four years or more, any real 43 defensive ends. Saulsberry may be the only true 43 defensive end we have. Mr. Smith has always been undersized and, if we actually become a 34, Mr. Smith will be a much better Jack next year. That is a very difficult learning curve.

Thank you all for wanting to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I am 69 years old and have been a Vol longer than most of you have been alive. I made some of my best memories during four years on "The Hill" when it was still the hill. May I suggest therapy for many of you for severe depression and many for anger management. I am sure each of us could coach this team better than any coach we could hire and most of you are much better quarterbacks than young Mr. Bray. Please excuse the young man for forgetting he is supposed to be God.

What the H*&&! I think I'm gonna go rent a movie and pop some popcorn. This place and the other two as well is just too darn much fun. I have said nothing here I haven't said a dozen times on the other two.

Good Night and may God have mercy on our football souls.

  • Leave Dooley alone , we will never be where we want this program to be by firing Dooley . Did Paterno always win at Penn State ? No Did Bowden always win at Florida State ? No There is something to be said for stability, the constant turn around with not lure recruits to the hill it will drive them away . We have become a results driven society we want we want and we want it right now . Well , I want to go back to glory days of 1998 as much as any true Vol does however firing Dooley is not the way to get there . Am I frustrated , do bears crap in the woods ?
Here's my thoughts we switched to the 3/4 without all the personnel to run that system . The 3/4 is a complicated system to grasp and master usually does not happen in one season and it requires a few specific types of players some we have and some we do not. The main thing it requires is corner backs that can cover and are fast we are lacking this. Dooley seems to have a staff in place that get us where we want to be , we need the players to buy into it and play, some have some have not . Mainly Tyler Bray, he seems to lack the work ethic ,maturity and drive to win . Remember Peyton ,How many back to back bad games did he have ? None that I can remember , He spent the time in the film room preparing himself for what the other was doing and what they would show him and how to counter it . Does Bray ? I'm not seeing it . We need to make changes , demoting players even it means you lose a game might be worth it . Playing time is not a right you have to earn it. Bench Bray and Hunter next week. Worley can play , move Patterson over to Hunter's spot and stick Howard or another young WR in there . Something has to give .

  • These are not rumors people. It is over and has been. Be excited because this seven year debacle is coming to a close finally. Big change is on the way. Tomorrow or next Monday will be the announcement. It was a bad hire but it is time to move on. Gruden will be here soon. Patience is a virtue.

DD is 2-31 against teams with .500 or better record. Enough said.

  • It hits the unintelligent, classless and clueless right on the head....
We have fired all of the coaches that we have at Tennessee basketball, baseball, swimming and track next. The issue is that the only thing that most of these people have in their lives is football and that is the biggest if not only thing in Knoxville. I am a graduate of UT and lived there. These people that compain about Dooley do not have any appreciation for integrity, class and what it takes to build a clean football program. Their only whine is I want to win now. The program is better off today then when Dooley arrived while inheriting Fulmers last 35th ranked recruiting class, Kiffin renegade recruiting program with a boatload of promises but obviously short on delivery and a team that he is expected to hold together two weeks before signing day.
These whiners and red necks need to get a life and if they can't find one in Knoxville there is a whole big world out there.

Sure the sky is falling, Donald Trump will win the election and I'm married to Kim Kardiasian . Got any proof to to your claims ? That's what I thought. Gruden baaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh ! Sure he is ! So who is going to be the OC and DC ? Peyton is going to retire from the NFL and be the OC and Reggie White is going to come back from the dead to be DC .
