Dooley, Vols talk fan frustration

The UT fan base isn’t happy, and you won’t find a player or coach to disagree with that. Derek Dooley certainly understands that. But the Vols' coach isn't focusing on it.

  • That pic of the little kid in the UT knit hat with his head down breaks my heart.

  • The defense hasn't competed all year. I'm not saying nothing about the 18 yrs. old boys it's the coaching I'm talking about. If they can't do the job give someone else a chance. I've said it all year long they don't have one player who shows leadership. The coaching is the worst I've seen since the 60's when I started watching the VOLS. The players has no discipline what so ever. The offense line coach and the running back coach is the only one's that shown improvement this year. But I will be there supporting them every week no matter what

  • you are absolutely ignorant if you think Worley will give us an edge or even be a good quarter back next year. that is all.

    Dooleyfan

  • why you hating on worley? there's not much of a reason at all to hate on worley?

  • We saw Worley in action last year when he only had Da'rick the other rogers and a few freshmen WR's. he appeared to have the makings of a SEC quality QB but he is not a Bray nor does many come along with the rifle arm he has. No Bray is not a scrambler but his release substitutes some for that and is reflected in not being sacked too ofter even when our OL was learning. Worley is not a scamble type QB either but may run a little better than Bray. They indicated Peterson is the better scrambler and may have a little stronger arm than Worley. I hope Bray returns next year but I doubt it.

  • Man i really want him to succeed here because of his reaction in this article...but i am starting to have some serious doubts after saturday night.

  • One of the things I’ve always said is that Dooley lacks that coaching ‘X’ factor… that ability to inspire his kids to play beyond their ability level. A lot of these quotes I read from him tell me that he’s great at breaking things down in a logical order to make it easy for players, fans, and the media to understand, but at the same time ignores the other element needed for the equation to work properly. He’s good at saying “all you need to do is X, Y, and Z and you’ll be alright”. While he’s not incorrect, he’s not inspiring either. Players feed off inspiration as it drives them to perform at a level they never thought possible. Think of the movie ‘Miracle’ (1980 U.S. Hockey team). They surpassed everyone’s expectations, including their own. Once they began to believe, they were unstoppable. This team, while on paper they say they believe, I don’t think deep down they really do. We all know the talent is there… the motivation to excel isn’t.

    +1
While I not sure if I totally agree,.its definitely a good thought. The team hasn't quit on Dooley, but would they run thru a wall for him?

  • I hate all the negativity going on right now and yeah i'm frustrated but not to the point that i blame Dooley i blame the defense and as i stated before Bray misses Darick and i see why cause he would take a big hit and still come down with the catch Hunter has really dissappointed me and Rivera on the pass that could've kept the chains moving the players gotta play with heart and wanna win and i think next yr will be proof

I was getting ready to start a thread on this.

How much does Bray miss DaRick? Obviously not all the off the field stuff, but he was the over the middle guy that didn't care to take the hits. Hunter had HUGE drops on the UGA and Miss st games.

  • I expected vols to win on Saturday. Disappointed they didn't But has anyone said ms state just played a really good game. I know they haven't played anyone I get that, their chance is coming. But they are undeated. The 3 teams tenn has lost to has a combined 1 lose. And we had legit chances to win all 3 games. Let's relax get passed these 2 games and see what we can do.

If his troops aren’t prepared and the defense is getting steamrolled each week, Dooley ultimately has to be held accountable. It’s his job to prepare them… plain and simple. Granted, I expected some adversity with the transition to a 3-4, but this defense has been performing at embarrassing levels.

You don’t blame the soldiers for losing a battle… you blame their commander for not putting them in a position to win.

From what I saw at the game, State played pretty well. They had a great game plan on O, picking up what yardage we gave them, they protected the ball extremely well with the one exception of the INT that our back dropped, and they made the big plays when it counted - forced fumble, kickoff recovery, 3rd down conversions, etc.

On the flip side, it seemed we also played well, but didn't make the big plays when we needed to, didn't convert on several 3rd and shorts, and didn't protect the ball as well as we could. But the biggest problem is giving up 41 points. It's hard to ask the O to get 40+ points in these big games. Not saying they're not capable, because they are the strength of the team, but it puts them in a situation where they have to play almost flawlessly to out score the other team.

  • I don't know what so reat about this 3 4 defence. Why can't we go back to the 4 3 which we were running last year. 30 points a game would have won UT a lots of game last year.

  • Can someone tell me how its the coaches fault? The caoach calls the play but if the players dont exicute it thats on the players not the coaches. the only things i have seen that makes me mad about the coaching is why is it that the announcers saturday could see that CP is the play maker on offence but the coaches couldnt. and the defense has from the start of the year given the other teams recievers a 5 to 10 yard cushion off the line and thats giving em atleast 5 yards every pass play.

  • Some of it is coaching , However in another article Lather's stated that there are guy's not putting forth the work in the film room on their own . That is not coaching that's all attitude you either want it or you don't . Blame Dooley if you want , blame Sunseri also but if the players are not doing their work to learn the opponents that's on the player's . Manning did we know how that went . Coaches can't see everything the players should relaying information to the coaches as what they are seeing on the field and making the adjustments .

I do think Worley will be a better QB than Bray , I do not think Bray has it sure he has the arm but he does not the work ethic or the attitude to put the extra work in . Worley is more mobile and comes across as more of a Peyton Manning type player with his work ethic. Attitude is everything look at Alabama, those upperclassmen hold them to standard an expectation if you will , if they are not ready to play you better believe that one of them has already told Saban before game day and taken corrective actions . They expect to win !

  • It's pretty hard to be a true fan and try to tear the program apart by painting negative message on the rock and constantly posting negative messages on these sites. I doubt many of our post come from anyone that is worthy of expressing these type comments about our vol players and coaches. I've let a little of it fly myself but I'm done. If we're truly fans, it's time to curb the crap and support the program. We all want to win. I think Dooley can get us there. Go Vols!
