Dooley. Vs. Butch

  • So far Dooley was way better with less time he got guys like Hunter and Rogers. So far butch has just brought guys from the bearcats, but he has till signing day. What do u all think about it.

  • Dooley held a top 10 class together and Butch came into a class that was out, or nearly, out of the top 25(can't even remember where we were at the time). Butch just needs to fill the needs and get kids that he trust can do the job.

  • Butch still thinks he is in the Big East and it looks like he is arrogant enough to think he can win in the SEC with these type of players.

  • I'd say being hired so late was a bit of an advantage for dooley. Yeah he had little time, but some players were already enrolled i think. That's less time for recruits to flip also.

    Jones doesn't have much choice. These are the guys he has built relationships with. He's bringing in the sure thing. And with a lot of already committed 4 and 5 stars he's getting to visit, it's not crazy to think we'll grab an unexpected big fish.

    People have said it before, his next class will give us a better idea on his recruiting prowess in the SEC

    He's bringing bodies in. When he has time to build relationships and take advantage of UT's recruiting resources, over the course of a full season, then we'll see what he's got.

    Keep in mind that Dooley did add those guys, but surely as a smart UT fan, you understand the process and realize that Dooley came in at the end of the recruiting cycle. CBJ is still dealing with a month of decision making and visits and time. CBJ knows he is in with the big boys in the SEC and knows what he has to do.

    Arrogance? I prefer to think he exudes confidence . . . confidence in himself, in his staff, the players and most of all, the University of Tennessee and all of the facilities, tradition, fan base, etc.

    If he can't bring in a good class this year it will set us back 2-3 years in the rebuild. It doesn't have to be a monster class but it does need to be top 20-25 at minimum.

    Heck yes he is arrogant,he thinks he can bring the same staff and same recruits he had at Cincy and somehow compete in the SEC. Kiffin came in and signed the #1 player in the country and was hired about the same time Jones wasso do not give me this stuff about how far Jones is behind because it just doesn't fly for those with open eyes.

  • I guess the better question is which bearcat will switch to us next. Look at what the guy at ole miss is doing. I am just a huge vol fan tired of not being great at any sport. We don't look like the state university look at what vandy did to us and now the tigers tonight. How can vandy get better players than us with all the resources we have I just never thought we would be this low, but I will wear my orange even if we never win another meaningful game.

    In looking at the recruiting rankings most of the teams ahead of us are ahead due to a higher number of commitments. As the class fills out our ranking will also rise.

    Seriously, Vol fans need to chill...the guys is just starting to make some hay on the trail, he's got 27 ships to work with and a month to close strong. Give the guy a chance for christssake, Fooley has made you all skidding.

    I agree but we have a ways to go and some of those teams will improve. 'Drizz is right, we need 2-4 difference makers. I'm as patient as the next guy but Jones is going to have to coach his butt off to be successful even with a top 20 class. On the surface it appears he can but time will tell because the SEC exposes all frauds(not saying he is one).

    Spot on Tnbear. There is plenty of time. Coach Jones can't control when guys announce. He is filling some needs now, it's not like we are running out of spots. We all know the Big targets, we miss out on all of them, well than things will get uncomfortable.

    Yep we need some guys that can come in and make some plays immediately. Green, Bell, and Lawson or Herron would be huge.

    I'm glad we got the kid and KR saying he is likely to get a new evaluation means something also. However, it does not change our overall need...it helps...but we still need a good to great class to keep the rebuild on track. It was 5 years when Dooley got here which leaves two if CBJ can bring in the same or better caliber classes that Dooley did. Let's just hope he is a better coach which is not a high bar to get over.
