Dooley discusses playing for OT

UT's players took the ball at their own 39 with 43 seconds left and thought they'd have three chances to move the chains and get closer to a big win. But they got just two.

  • I didn't read this article because regardless of the reasoning, it was the wrong decision.

My 5 year old could probably offer some sound reasoning as to why he decided to punch his little brother in the mouth this morning, but no matter why, it was the wrong thing to do.

Not giving the best offense in the SEC a shot at moving the ball downfield when you have good field position, two time outs, two absolutely freakishly talented WRs and an opposing defense you have gashed the entire game is the wrong decision. Period.

  • All manners of logic problems in his explanation for his bad decision. He doesn't trust his offense for another play, but he trusts them to win in overtime? He has an offense and can win in overtime, but he forgets he has no defense, which can and does lose in overtime?

If third down fails, at least make them burn their last time out there and kick it out of bounds-- you know Palardy can do that.

It's a shame that a coach who made tons of gutty calls two years ago, and even successfully faked a field goal in overtime last night, doesn't have the courage to play for the win with one of the best offenses in school history.

Regime change is now the only viable option.

Couldn't agree more, especially with your first paragraph.

Deciding to run the clock at end of regulation sealed Dooley's fate. That told me all I needed to know. 0-5 and playing not to lose versus dictating a win spoke loudly. I don't know why the offense is so hot and cold. But they have done enough for 3 more wins. I see the defense has no speed at defensive back and linebacker and there is only so much you can do to hide that. But come on man!!! Dooley is a good guy and if he could keep or find top notch assistants he might have a chance. But his game management in tight games is terrible. At least 3 and maybe 4 games were winnable this year if he had any leadership skills. Time to go...and I have been a supporter until today.

I'm with you. This game finally pushed me over the edge. Maybe I'm older, a little more patience.........or just old. I think CDD is a good man, maybe someone you would like to live nearby....but not trying everything you got to get a chance to put points on the board to win the game finally did it for me. We need new blood. Go Vols

  • Really inexplainable decision. Contradicted himself with going on 4th down in ot. Panicked under pressure at the end of regulation. Has to go now. Very sad. Wish him well. Who is realistic replacement that can recruit against the best ??

  • I would read this article, but there's nothing Dooley can say to justify that decision in my mind

  • I think what Dooley says makes sense. They had two bigs plays against us and it wasn't out of the questions that it could happen again. I say Dooley stays unless there is an obvious top tier coach option.

The Vol DBs couldn't cover my grandpa. They are bad. I would bet big money that there are UT students who could walk on and play better DB than those who are playing. Let's start a campaign for some new walk ons. All Alcoa, Maryville, Ensworth etc. former players are invited to try out for DB!! There is nothing to lose and everything to gain. I was in favor of Dooley getting another year, but not now. It is time to wipe the board clean and start over. The Vols are at the bottom so there is no where to go but up, but not with some of the current defensive misfits. If the B_H_P combo all leave after this year, it will be a lot more of the same next season with the 2013 killer schedule.

  • It was the final straw if there even was one left. Its weird.......he can do the fake FG call but cant call a 3rd down pass or a timeout........just strange.

  • I tried to read this but after reading the first few sentences I wanted to vomit.
