Dooley dismisses dismissal reports

    Derek Dooley said several times Monday that he’s not been told his tenure as UT's football coach will end after this season. But he didn't deny that his future was uncertain.

  • Even though I am no longer in favor of retaining Coach Dooley, I still like the guy a lot. He is still a class act and still candid in his answers. And the players are showing as much maturity concerning the situation as you could possibly hope for. I truly hope they take it to Candy this week. These guys could use something positive right now. Orange. GO VOLS!

    anything that has dooley staying is not good news. anyone who still supports this coaching staff has no clue what football is about. how can a coach preach to his players "you have to play a full 60 minutes" when he himself quit with 38 seconds left? he is a disgrace to football coaches everywhere.

    The way I read this quote, the jury is still out even with wins over Vandy and Kentucky (and maybe even a bowl game), but lose to either and the decision has been made.

    Does anybody else read it that way?

    Its interesting that Hart is not talking about this but Dooley is.

    Everyone knows that he is getting fired, including Dooley. This talk about being lied to is just a gratuitous shot at the AD on the way out the door. I hope Dooley can manage to handle this with class. I would imagine that he hopes to continue to work in college FB.

  • As an alum, I continue to be embarrassed by this university. I have been a Dooley supporter from Day 1. In fact, I think when it is all said and done, we'll look back at the rebuilding job that Dooley and company orchestrated as a huge success. However, and not sure how many of you saw it, but I loved when Coach Brian Kelly was being asked to defend his undefeated season at Notre Dame (because the wins were close)! He said, "It may not be pretty, but great teams find a way to win close ballgames!" To me, talent is obviously important, but winning close games is a mindset....that comes from coaching. Having played D1 athletics, there's not much separating a Tennessee from a South Carolina from a talent standpoint...it's a mindset that "they" have that "we" don't. I'm afraid we won't have that mindset until we start over with a proven head ball coach. Until then, we have to accept the mediocrity...but it still hurts like heck! I mean, we are underdogs to Vandy for goodness sakes!!!

    I am embarrassed by this football team. DD is no where he should be as a head coach. you got players that's playing that says they don't care if they win or lose and he still starts them. A real coach would send him back home where he belongs. I hate it for DD son more than I do anybody because of all the negative stuff. But it all comes with the job. Give me a million and abuse me all you want but I would still hate it for my son, DD brought all this on himself
