I think he wants to have it resolved but if no one is interested he might not get there...

    Worst. Case. Scenario.

LWS, I have been sensing an underlying tone to your posts lately. This is a legit question because I respect your insight and information. You seem to be somewhat disgusted with Dooley and or the troubles surrounding him. Have you lost confidence in him or did you ever have confidence in him? Is there more going on in the program than I am aware of. I have one source in the program but not to the level you do. May just be a wrong perception on my part.

If your DOD work was with DIA, Dooley apparently doesn't need much help there - NO LEAKS. But we on this board might hire you!! to "borrow" some inside information for us.

You got that right - NO LEAKS. I'm suprised one of our undergrads hasn't hacked his email or smartphone yet. no

well I've never really determined if I think he can be successful or not here. I always felt that he needed to get through the season where he had his first entire class as seniors. I don't count his first signing class because he only had 18 days. So that would make 2011 first class and 2014 his first full senior class. I thought the program was bad enough that he needed that body of work to determine his effectiveness. Of course, if the train ran of tracks and we were winning 3-4 games a year he would likely not survive that.

I always felt the challenge with getting to that point would be the fans patience. I didn't feel the fans would be patient enough if he didn't make significant progress each season. I thought the team showed prgoress this year on defense. They improved over all. On offense, they didn't but could easily be explained by Bray / Hunter injuries. Unfortunately, we had the Kentucky game. The game should have been a win and not a loss. No excuses, that is a black mark on Dooley.

There are other things he has not handled well but that doesn't mean I'm ready to say he is not going to be successful here. Those are out there for people to judge as well. Not talking things that are in background. I still think he needs the time I outlined above but I also recognize that Kentucky loss likely shorten the timeline from those that matter standpoint. I think seeing coaches leave indicates that. I think the struggle to get coaches in, indicates that. The timeline is shorter.

The best scenario for Tennessee is for Dooley to succeed. My guess would be his successor likely to come from coordinator ranks before coming from the head coaching ranks. Either way, is just another risk that we as fans have to live through to see if successful or not.

long way to say I'm not disgusted with him. I do see some cracks that need repair. I certainly hope he is successful.

I don't think there are major rifts in the program at this time that is causing Dooley issues. There is likely more doubt in his chances for success from more people than a year ago. I do recognize that. Fan unrest can certainly end a new coach (Dooley) much quicker than an older coach (Fulmer or Majors)

  • +1 I think you have given a very fair assessment of the situation.

  • Personally I think any news or rumors out of the UT camp that is even remotely negative is being seized upon to be used against the Vols. Kick'em while they're down. Both recruiters and opposing fans [and some so called UT fans] are behind a lot of the negativity. Not to say the facts shouldn't be reported and discussed but it seems that there is something new stirring the pot every day. It's like a shark feeding frenzy !

  • Just for clarification, I wasn't trying to say a power struggle actually existed but I do think that what is being "rumored" brings a good question to mind, that is why I asked....

here is what I believe and many others on here have eluded to. I think the choice is up to CDD... but Hart will have final say in negotiations. If Hart does not want the candidate, he will make the negotiations impossible so that it doesn't happen.

I think this might be the best assessment of this situation that I've read. +1 for a good post!

I agree down the line with everything you said. I do diverge a bit on the timeline. I thought he had until 2013 to put up some nice W's and hope that is still the case. Kentucky really did throw a wrench in the gears for everyone. Thanks for the response. +1
