Personally I'm as frustrated as any Vol fan out there, but I have come to the conclusion that the best thing for us to do is give Dooley a 5yr contract extension . I know that this makes no logical sense to most of you, so allow me to explain. More than likely Dooley is going to get another anyway and let's face it recruits see this and know this . It's no big secret that stability has more influence on a program than anything else ,or the illusion of stability that is . Recruits are gravitated to programs with coaches that have stability and run a pro style system like we do, they have dreams of someday playing in the NFL so they are naturally going to gravitate to a program that can fill that need or best help them accomplish that goal . Assistant Coaches will be more inclined to take a position if there is the illusion of stability .
Let's face Gruden is not going to come to Tennessee and Kirby Smart is no guarantee . So, we give Dooley a 5 year extension and thus create an illusion of stability . It would have a tremendous impact on recruiting because let's face it no recruit wants to have a coaching change since this usually means a system change . Recruits go a school more for the system than the educational benefits since they are thinking 3 years and then I'm looking at the draft and lets face it nobody wins games on coaching alone you must have talent. In the event Dooley decided to make a coaching change he would have an easier time attracting a proven assistant coach because of the illusion of stability and in the event Dooley has a season to remember next year well he's already under contract, if he doesn't well we simply buy him out and move on. How many 5 star recruits have we had on the Hill last season and this season ? How many of them decided against us and went with programs with more stability or the illusion of stability ? That's my point !
